CNN is to open a broadcast centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 2009. The new facility will produce live programmes on the Middle East region and will employ about 30 people initially.

According to Tony Maddox, international managing director at CNN, the “new operation in Abu Dhabi will enable us to continue to meet and exceed the demands of our audiences at a time when many of our competitors are having to retrench.”

A spate of companies have announced that they were setting up shop in Abu Dhabi, an island city that is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The companies are CNN, the book publishers HarperCollins and Random House, the BBC, The Financial Times and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the charity arm of the financial news giant Thomson Reuters.

Officials from these companies joined local officials in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to announce they would take space on a new 200,000-square-meter campus, called the Abu Dhabi Media Zone, that the government is building for foreign media companies.

The campus is intended to be an incubator that will mix Western media companies with billions in Middle Eastern oil money. It will offer training programs for journalists and filmmakers from the region but, more important, it will be a base for Western companies to do business in the region — and at the same time help the Abu Dhabi government reach its goal of becoming a cultural and media center of the Middle East.

Ao final da noite ainda tivemos acesso à festa de abertura que contou com grandes musicas, fogo de artificio e para além de todo o luxo do hotel juntou-se o glamour duma festa cinematografica... Um espetaculo... Até me calhou uns copos de champagne mas não um qualquer, bebi um belo Moet' Chandon... :)

Le Grand Prix du Canada ne figurera pas au calendrier 2009 du championnat de F1. C'est la décision prise par le Conseil mondial du sport automobile qui s'était réuni à Paris. Apres la suppression du GP d'Indianapolis, aux Etats-Unis, et maintenant celui de Montréal, l'Amérique du Nord se voit privé de toute compétition de Formule 1 en 2009. Avec le retrait du GP de Montréal, c'est celui d'Abu Dhabi qui intègre le calendrier 2009 qui démarre le 29 mars avec le GP d'Australie.

Há noite fomos até ao Emerate Palace Hotel, o mais luxuoso em Abu Dhabi para preparar a cerimónia de abertura do Festival de Cinema que vai começar daqui a 2 dias durante uma semana. Segundo consta até devem aparecer por cá meninos e meninas conhecidas de Hollywood... Se conseguir depois tiro umas fotos para por aqui no blog...

Anche alcuni prestigiosi investimenti internazionali sembrano meno sicuri. Difficilmente Dubai Financial Group aiuterà Marfin, la società di investimenti greca di cui possiede il 17%, a raccogliere i 5 miliardi di euro di cui necessita. Allo stesso modo, Dubai International Capital sembra aver perso interesse nella squadra di calcio del Liverpool. Viceversa, il capitale vincolato in asset esistenti verrà reimpiegato per rafforzare i bilanci più in rosso.
Nessuno pensa che Dubai possa crollare sotto il peso dei debiti. Tuttavia, il prestito della settimana scorsa è un segnale fin troppo chiaro del fatto che Dubai dovrà premere a fondo sul freno.

BAGHDAD (AFP) 

Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahayan paid an unannounced visit to Iraq on Tuesday that he said was aimed at "confirming our total support" for the war-ravaged nation.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who welcomed the crown prince at Baghdad international airport, said he was appreciative of the support from the United Arab Emirates, of which Abu Dhabi is the capital.

"This visit is an important step in developing and enhancing relations with the brother state, the UAE, especially in political, economic and commercial fields," Maliki was quoted as saying in a government statement.

It said the crown prince, who is also the number two in the UAE armed forces, would be finalising a location for a UAE diplomatic mission in Baghdad.

On September 4, Abdullah Ibrahim al-Shehhi presented his credentials as UAE envoy, becoming the first Arab ambassador to be stationed in Iraq in two years. He had been named in July.

"Our visit is to confirm our total support for the national unity government and to develop political and economic relations," the crown prince said, according to the Iraqi government statement.

In July, the UAE announced a seven-billion-dollar debt forgiveness for Iraq.

The crown prince's visit came hot on the heels of a visit by Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on Sunday.

Washington has been pushing its Sunni Arab allies to send ambassadors to Baghdad as a counterweight to Shiite Iran.

The UAE withdrew its most senior diplomat -- a charge d'affaires -- from Baghdad in May 2006 after another diplomat was kidnapped by Islamist militants and held for two weeks.

Para primeira crónica optei por uma temática mais leve, que pudesse facilmente arrancar uma ou outra gargalhada, e que constituísse uma informação útil para recém-chegados aos Emirados Árabes Unidos.

E o tema escolhido foi.... (RRRRFFFFFF.... PXXXXXXX!!!) A condução!

Quanto mais ando por estas bandas, mais reflicto sobre o comportamento humano na estrada. Em Abu Dhabi e Dubai - e se eu inferir este comportamento ao resto dos Emirados, penso que não estarei a ser injusto - assiste-se a uma condução, e utilizando um eufemismo, verdadeiramente selvagem.

A saber e sem ser demasiado exaustivo: 

          * Piscas não existem;

          * As buzinas são uma constante, como se tivessem uma espécie de ligação directa à correia do carro, de maneira a que cada rotação desse origem, como se de uma fatalidade se tratasse, a várias buzinadelas sendo inevitável e arbitrário o seu uso;

          * Os solavancos, mesmo em linha recta, sem qualquer obstáculo pela frente e com mudanças automáticas, são algo a que um ocidental - mesmo alguém familiarizado com as lombas que povoam Oeiras, ao pára-arranca da IC-19, ou mesmo aos percalços de uma passagem pelo nó de Pina Manique - tem invariavelmente que se habituar. Este facto só não é agravado porque as estradas deste país são quase todas rectas, planas e como 3/4 faixas. Prefiro não pensar numa IP-5 por aqui...

          * Carros estacionados em 2ª fila são um dado quase adquirido. O que me espanta realmente neste comportamento é que quem mais faz isto, fá-lo no próprio bairro, isto é, de um dia para o outro. E quem está na 1ª fila, digamos: Não estivesse! Mas não é tudo tão deixado ao acaso. Existe uma "táctica" que consiste em alternar os carros, isto é, cada carro fica no meio do que está ao seu lado. Para os mais cépticos, ainda há esperança! Está aqui um embrião de civismo a desenvolver-se...

          * Para estes meninos, as passadeiras são consideradas passadeiras vermelhas, ou seja, são para avançar como se um Óscar estivesse à espera do outro lado e só se tivesse 10 segundos para o alcançar. As passadeiras nesta cidade, e quiçá, neste país, têm um objectivo meramente decorativo (contemplativo, no caso dos pedestres), só para dar uma ideia de que existe respeito, uma espécie de pacto de não-agressão entre os condutores e os pedestres. Errado!

Ao constatar estes factos, pus-me a pensar - o que já de si é grave - nestas questãos automobílisticas e culturais. Cheguei a algumas conclusões, ainda que talvez um pouco La Palicianas, que vou passar a (de)escrever:

A condução é um barómetro da personalidade de um país. Ainda não viajei tanto quanto queria, mas entre o senso-comum e o empirismo, já reparei numas coisas. O primeiro sintoma prende-se com o imediatismo, o recurso automático e sistemático à buzina.

Exemplificando, e indo directamente aos extremos, numa semana que estive em Amesterdão só me lembro de ter ouvido uma vez uma buzina e foi por causa de um devaneio meu numa bicicleta, isto é, foi plenamente justificado. Voltando a Abu Dhabi, posso dizer que num mês de estadia já começo a ganhar umas defesas, uma espécie de firewall aplicada aos ouvidos que faz com que ouça este ruído de fundo pincelado a buzinas, sem me irritar (demasiado). Houve inclusivamente uma manhã (na segunda semana aqui, salvo erro) em que cheguei a cronometrar o tempo que passava sem ouvir uma buzinadela. E lá fiquei 10/15 minutos, enquanto ganhava coragem para me levantar, de janela entreaberta a contar segundos mentalmente. O resultado máximo foi de 36 segundos com o horizonte sonoro imaculado de buzinas. E não estou numa avenida principal, nem na proximidade de uma rotunda (uma espécie de oásis civilizacional num deserto de valores e de jeitinho ao volante), coisa quase inexistente nestas paragens, embora no asfalto tudo se passe num enorme Marquês de Pombal multiplicado ao expoente da inconsciência.

Outro indicador é o grau de educação. apresentação, e por que não, literário dos taxistas.

Em Portugal existe um estigma negativo em relação aos taxistas, algumas vezes justificado, mas nem sempre. Já conheci vários muito afáveis - a maioria, atrevo-me a dizer - e com conversas bastante interessantes, mas é um facto que o mais erudito que lêem (pelo menos à luz do dia) são os jornais desportivos.

Já em Espanha, mais propriamente em Vigo, Galiza, lembro-me de ver dois a ler livros com um número considerável de caracteres.

Em Amesterdão, rebenta a bolha! Uns senhores. Até gravata têm. (Não que seja propriamente uma garantia de credibilidade, mas quem já os viu, decerto não me tira a razão).

No que diz respeito aos Emirados, estão num 1º estado de evolução. Uma espécie de Homo Taxapiens.

Para quem não conhece, existem 3 tipos de táxis por aqui:

     1) Os brancos e amarelos "guiados" por autóctones (embora haja versões contraditórias e poucos consensos quanto à nacionalidade deles): mais baratos, é certo, mas os mais selvagens e digamos, nabos.

     2) Depois existem os cinzentos, guiados por emigrantes indianos, nepaleses, paquistaneses, etc. Ironicamente (ou não) mais apresentáveis, alguns com mudanças manuais (!) e que proporcionam viagens bastante mais calmas e mais didácticas, ainda que haja sempre um risco latente por causa dos outros condutores. Costumam ser mais educados e comunicativos, e, por que não  dizê-lo, mais asseados, e, ao contrário dos primeiros que referi, não se costumam dar ao luxo de ignorar os potenciais clientes que aparentam ir para zonas da cidade (como a praia, por exemplo) que lhes convêm menos devido ao trânsito, longevidade, ou, simplesmente, porque não estão para isso.

     3) O terceiro, e último, tipo de taxista é o não oficial, e, para os mais curiosos, é muito fácil de encontrar à frente do Marina Mall e são, simplesmente, taxistas à paisana, isto é, sem licença, mas que fazem o serviço pelo triplo do preço, se for mal negociado. :P Só andei uma vez neste, para evitar uma boa hora na fila para os táxis (oficiais) com alguns camaradas e fiz um amigo indiano. Um abraço senhor Mohammed Salim!

Um parêntesis:

(Para espalharem charme, ou simplesmente para criarem uma ponte de comunicação entre vocês, caros leitores, e um indiano residente num país árabe, como é o caso, basta perguntarem, depois de ele vos ter feito um favor - "It's shuckran or shuckrian my friend?" - Se for indiano, responderá - "Oh, Oh! - com um sorriso rasgadíssimo - shuckrian, yes!" - com sotaque à Apu dos Simpsons. É engraçado como um "i" a mais numa palavra pode baixar a barreira social, e juntar duas pessoas de cantos do mundo tão díspares numa dimensão universal, acima de qualquer bolha Actimel. Parece tudo tão simples... E é, de facto...)

Montréal ne fait pas partie de la liste des courses de la saison 2009.  Me semble t'il que c'est du déjà vu.  Me semble t'il que Tonton Bernie récidive avec cette bonne méthode qu'est "le chantage".

En 2004, rappellons-nous, il avait également utilisé ce stratagème, évoquant la loi anti-tabac.  Quelques personnes, donc le "bon"restaurateur" millionaire de la rue Crescent M. Creton descendèrent sur cette même rue Crescent pour faire enlever cette loi anti-tabac, et pour que le grand prix revienne.  Ou plutôt, qu'il reste, car Bernie ne faisait que des menaces.

Il y a 2 ans également, le même stratagème avait été utilisé.  Une entente de 5 ans avait été alors conclue.

Que s'est t'il passé depuis pour que le grand vizir de la F1 décide d'enlever Montréal de la carte des courses de l'année 2009?  Aucune idée.  Mais le fait est que le grand cirque de la F1 est plus interessé par des circuits et des pays qui sont prêt à allonger des millions de dollars pour avoir une course chez eux.

Voici une courte liste de quelques courses en 2009.  Qu'à Montréal en commun avec ces villes et pays...pas grand chose.  Même que je ne vois aucun rapport.  Des pays riches comme jamais on ne peux l'imaginer, des pays émergeant qui on des milliards de télespectateurs.  ET qu'à Montréal a donner contre ça? JE vous le demande...

Il faut un jour cesser de nous regarder le nombril, et être savoir que nous ne faisons pas le poids.

Valence aligne 70 millions d'Euro pour une course de F1.  90 MILLIONS DE DOLLARS AMÉRICAINS....

Les autoritées de Montréal, disent que le grand-orix du Canada rapporte 80 millions de retombées économiques de tous genres.  Le calcul n'est pas difficile à faire.  Nous sommes dans le trou de 10 millions.

Et pourquoi engraisseraient t'on les poches de ce pédant personnage qui se fout totalement des fans de F1, mais qui ne marche qu'à l'argent et aux menaces?  Ce personnage qui a déjà dis que son rêves est de faire courir un grand-prix de F1 sans spectateurs...que ceci serait plus payant pour le "grand" circuit....

Je me demande sérieusement.  Y a t'il tant d'européens qui viennent nous visiter dans la semaine du grand-prix?  Y a t'il des faits et des chiffres qui prouvent que 50 000 ou 60 000 européens sont à Montréal pendant le grand-prix?

Pourquoi ne pas envoyer pêtre Bernie et lui dire d'aller se faire voir ailleurs, lui et ses platitudes de courses, courses qui n'en ne sont pas, mais qui est un défilé de belle voiture-fusées, et de belles poupounes silliconnées qui se sentent faisant partie du jet-set en se montrant les seins a tous et chacuns.  Et que dire des m'as-tu-vu, que ce soit journalistes ou "jet-set" québécois...si Jet-set il y a, qui se pavanent dans les puits en feignant d'être riche et en feignant d'être amis de tous et chacun (et là, je ne parle pas juste de Benoit Gagnon...), et tous ces grands amateurs de caviar sur le bras, et de tout ce qu'ils peuvent se mettrent sous la dent sans alonger 1 sous....

Moi je leurs dis:  ALlez tous vous pendre.....

Mais ensuite....

Deux solutions s'offre à nous.  La première, mettre le même montant et faire venir la coupe Sprint-Nascar à Montréal, la même fin de semaine que la course Nationwide, ce qui attirerait surement autant sinon plus d'américains que la F1 attirait d'européens, et la deuxième, mettre ces montants astronomiques, et construire des arénas, des stade de soccer, de baseball, et que les jeunes québécois se mettent en forme et joouent dehors.

Pourquoi se mettre à genoux, et lécher les bottines Prada de Bernie, et en plus lui refiler des liasses de dollars pour essayer d'avoir un grand-prix?

Est-t'il trop demander de dire un moment donné:  ASSEZ C'EST ASSEZ?  La comédie a assez durée.

Je crois sincèrement que cette fois Bernie, les gens ne se rendront pas aux barricades et laisseront les belles voitures de la F1 s'en aller sous d'autres cieux.

pour le pire?  j'en doute...pour le meilleur?  surement!

H εταιρεία από το Abu Dhabi, θα επενδύσει για το μερίδιο της στην νέα εταιρεία $2,1 δισεκατομ. από τα οποία τα $1,4 δισεκατομ. θα επενδυθούν απευθείας στην νέα εταιρεία ενώ τα υπόλοιπα ($700 εκατομ.) στην AMD για την αγορά επιπλέον μετοχών για την εταιρεία "The Fοundry Company" από την τελευταία. Επιπλέον, η εταιρεία "The Foundry Company" θα επωμιστεί μεγάλο βάρος από τα χρέη της AMD, ύψους $1,2 δισεκατομ. Όπως είναι εύκολα κατανοητό, η AMD ως εταιρεία, δεν θα διαθέτει - τουλάχιστον στο όνομα της - ιδιόκτητα εργοστάσια κατασκευής ημιαγωγών, καθιστώντας το μέλλον της "fabless", όπως παλαιότερα ήταν η ATI ή σήμερα η Nvidia αλλά και άλλες πολλές εταιρείες. H AMD θα συνεχίζει να επινοεί και να σχεδιάζει τεχνολογίες και επεξεργαστές όπως και να τους προωθεί μέσω του δικού της marketing στην αγορά, απλούστατα δεν θα τους κατασκευάζει σε ιδιόκτητα εργοστάσια της. Η συμφωνία που θα καταστήσει την AMD, όπως αναφέραμε, fabless, θα ολοκληρωθεί στις αρχές του νέου έτους.

Όσο αφορά στην δεύτερη εταιρεία από το Abu Dhabi, την Mubadala Development Company, θα αυξήσει το μερίδιο της στην AMD, από το 8,1% που κατέχει σήμερα, στο 19,3% εξαγοράζοντας περίπου 58 εκατομμύρια μετοχών της AMD έναντι $314 εκατομ.

U.S. chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc plans to spin off its manufacturing plants into a $5.7 billion joint venture with Abu Dhabi to get a cash injection and shrink debt to better compete against larger rival Intel Corp.

Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), an Abu Dhabi state-owned venture capital firm, said it will invest $2.1 billion for a 55.6 percent stake in the venture, of which $700 million will go directly to AMD, which will hold the remaining stake. The two will divide the venture's board seats equally.

ATIC also committed to investing another $3.6 billion to $6.0 billion over 5 years to fund the venture's expansion. The 3,000-person new company will hold AMD's two plants in Dresden, Germany and make all of its central processing units, as well as chips for other companies.

Another Abu Dhabi government company, Mubadala Development Co, will spend $314 million to increase its stake in AMD to 19.3 percent from 8.1 percent and gain a seat on AMD's board.

Brian Mata, an analyst at IC Insights in Arizona, said AMD desperately needed the boost. The company has posted seven consecutive quarters of losses and is forecast by Wall Street to report another quarterly loss next week...

The venture will upgrade one of the two plants in Dresden and build the plant in New York to the latest technology standards, AMD said. It said the venture, which will be on AMD's balance sheet, may ultimately build a fab in Abu Dhabi.

Now, there's a surprise - an American corporation relying on foreign capital and building manufacturing facilities abroad to better fit a global market.

„Dieser Report ist nicht nur der erste seiner Art, der in unserer Region erstellt wurde, sondern liefert darüber hinaus einen wichtigen Maßstab bei der Beurteilung in den kommenden Monaten und Jahren“, so Blair Hagkull, Managing Director von Jones Lang LaSalle MENA. Die Ergebnisse im Überblick:

Es besteht kein klarer Konsens darüber, ob die Wirtschaftslage kurz vor ihrem „Tiefpunkt” ist

• Mehr als 60 % der Investoren sind optimistisch, dass die globalen Kapitalmärkte entweder unverändert bleiben oder sich in den nächsten 1-2 Jahren wieder bessern werden.

Der Mittlere Osten wird die anderen Regionen überholen

• Mehr als 50 % der Befragten glauben, dass die Immobilienmärkte des Mittleren Ostens in den nächsten 1-2 Jahren die stärkste Performance von allen Regionen weltweit an den Tag legen werden.

• 20 % aller Befragten halten den asiatisch-pazifischen Raum, angetrieben von Indien und China, in der nächsten Zeit für den Markt mit der besten Performance.

• Am wenigsten Zuversicht zeigen die Investoren im Blick auf die westeuropäischen Immobilienmärkte: nur 3 % erwarten, dass diese Region am besten abschneiden wird.

• Die meisten Investoren aus dem Mittleren Osten glauben nicht, dass die Märkte in den USA und Europa kurzfristig ihre Performance signifikant steigern können.

VAE, Saudi-Arabien und Katar am stärksten im Fokus

• Fast 50 % der Befragten glauben, dass die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate in den nächsten ein bis zwei Jahren den Immobilienmarkt mit der besten Performance bieten. Besonders zuversichtlich zeigen sich die Investoren gegenüber Abu Dhabi.

• Fast ein Viertel der Befragten charakterisiert Saudi-Arabien als den Immobilienmarkt mit der stärksten zu erwartenden Performance, dynamisiert durch eine große und sich schnell urbanisierende Bevölkerung sowie die neue Gesetzgebung, die die Immobilienmärkte öffnet. Unter den kleineren GCC-Staaten*** (ausgenommen Saudi-Arabien / VAE) steigt Katar zum Markt mit der besten Performance auf.

Der Mittlere Osten wird voraussichtlich eine der Regionen sein, die am wenigsten von der derzeitigen globalen Wirtschaftslage in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden

• Es besteht ein klar umgekehrtes Verhältnis zwischen den Immobilienmärkten mit der stärksten Performance und denjenigen Volkswirtschaften, die voraussichtlich am meisten von der globalen Wirtschaftslage in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden.

• Die Investoren gehen davon aus, dass die Schwellenmärkte im Mittleren Osten und Nordafrika (MENA), im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum und in Osteuropa am wenigsten von einer Wirtschaftskrise betroffen sein werden.

• Umgekehrt wird Nordamerika nach Meinung der Investoren vom globalen wirtschaftlichen Umfeld am meisten in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden (57%).

Die Investoren aus dem Mittleren Osten sind gut aufgestellt

• 45 % der Befragten gehen davon aus, dass diese Investoren von den schwierigen Bedingungen andernorts am meisten profitieren. Der Zeitpunkt für sie ist gut, um im Ausland zu investieren.

Obwohl das in den Mittleren Osten gesetzte Vertrauen höher ist als anderswo, ist die Region nicht völlig gegen Auswirkungen der globalen Wirtschaftslage geschützt

• Weniger als 20 % der Investoren vertraten die Ansicht, dass die derzeitige wirtschaftliche Situation signifikante Auswirkungen auf den Mittleren Osten hat.

• Mehr als 40 % der Investoren behaupten, dass das derzeitige globale Wirtschaftsumfeld wenig oder gar keine Auswirkungen auf ihre Einstellung gegenüber Immobilieninvestments im Mittleren Osten hat.

„Die Golf-Region bietet die Möglichkeit einer international vergleichsweise starken Wertschöpfung. Käufer versuchen in der Region, Rendite von 8 - 8,5 % für erstklassige Büroimmobilien zu erzielen, für Hotels etwas mehr. Dabei sind Investoren insbesondere in Abu Dhabi, im Königreich Saudi- Arabien und in Katar, entsprechend dem robusten wirtschaftlichen Potential und dem im Vergleich fortgeschritteneren Stadium im Immobilienzyklus, auf ein starkes Kapitalwachstum aus“, so Ian Ohan, Leiter Investment Transactions von Jones Lang LaSalle MENA. Und weiter: „Unter dem Eindruck steigender Kreditkosten dürften die Renditen einem zunehmenden Aufwärtsdruck ausgesetzt sein.“

Den Preisen für Immobilien liegt zunehmend eine Beurteilung des Cash-Flows zugrunde, was die Entwicklung der Immobilienmärkte weg von einer Projektentwicklungs- und hin zu einer Kapitalmarktbasis widerspiegelt. Nachdem die angespannte Lage an den Kreditmärkten zu immer weniger spekulativen Exit-Gelegenheiten führt, ist mit einer größeren Transaktionsaktivität dann wieder zu rechnen, wenn die Wertanforderungen der Verkäufer den Ertragsbewertungen eher entsprechen.

„Auch ein ganz wichtiges Kriterium ist für Investoren das Thema Markt-Transparenz. Hier sind Regierungsinitiativen zu beobachten, wie zum Beispiel die Einführung internationaler Best-Practice- Gesetzgebungen und die Durchsetzung von Corporate Governance – Initiativen“, so Ian Ohan.

Back in 2007, Pakistan exported about $1.2B worth of goods and services to the UAE, and so the $600M increase in just one year represents growth of 50% YoY. UAE's imports from Pakistan rise 50% to $1.8b

The UAE's imports from Pakistan increased 50 per cent this year compared with the previous year, according to trade figures from the Pakistani Commercial Office in Dubai. Imports increased from $1.2 billion in 2007 to $1.8 billion in 2008. The UAE was the largest importer from Pakistan in the Arab region.

The Arab region imported goods worth $3.36 billion in the July 2007-May 2008 period, an increase of 40.4 per cent from the year before. Mansour Bajwa, commercial counsellor for Pakistan in Dubai, told Gulf News that the main imports to the UAE include textiles, leather and rice. "Pakistan is also increasing exports of gems and jewellery, fruits and vegetables, IT software exports and petroleum products, particularly to the UAE," he said.

Growing interest

He said that "a lot of investors have shown interest" in the first Middle East-Pakistan agriculture and dairy investment forum, Abraaj CapitalAbraaj CapitalLoading... and other UAE companies and institutions have acquired farmland in Pakistan. At the agriculture forum in Dubai last April, "investors pledged over $3 billion worth of new investments in Pakistan's agriculture and dairy sectors, highlighting the country's potential for milk and fruit production," according to a Gulf Research Centre report on agriculture investment.
