[gallery]Melbourne is a beautiful city, but arriving at 8 on a Friday night and leaving at 12 on a Sunday didn't leave much time to really enjoy it - or explore! So it was arrive, quick red with Maddy, quick sleep, quick shower, quick drive to St Kilda, quick breakfast, quick walk down Ackland Street, quick visit to sale of leather coats (two bought), quick visit to recycled clothes boutique (none bought) .... quick quick quick. Dinner in town at Il Tempo, one of those little eateries you find in the Melbourne laneways, and then to see Wicked, the musical. Two things to say - I would have rather seen the Broadway production, and, the audience was really lcd! However Ali enjoyed it, following it word for word and note for note!

Such a pity that it was the proverbial flying visit because Melbourne has so much to see, and I think that Ali would loved to have seen more, especially of the markets and the op-shops. So there's a plan for next time!!!

Maddy and Michael you are the perfect hosts - thank you!

Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942) is a retired American boxer and former three-time World Heavyweight Champion. To date, he remains the only man to have won the linear heavyweight championship three times (the linear title is recognized by tracing an - almost - unbroken lineage of titleholders going back over 100 years, with nearly every champion defeating the previous titleholder in the ring). Ali was also the winner of an Olympic Light-heavyweight gold medal. In 1999, Ali was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and the BBC.

Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr., who was named for the 19th century abolitionist and politician Cassius Clay. Ali changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, subsequently converted to Sunni Islam in 1975 and then Sufism.

Religion and name change

After winning the championship from Liston in 1964, Clay revealed that he was a member of the Nation of Islam (often called the Black Muslims at the time) and the Nation gave Clay the name Cassius X, discarding his surname as a symbol of his ancestors' enslavement, as had been done by other Nation members. On Friday, March 6, 1964, Malcolm X took Clay on a guided tour of the United Nations building (for a second time). Malcolm X announced that Clay would be granted his "X." That same night, Elijah Muhammad recorded a statement over the phone to be played over the radio that Clay would be renamed Muhammad (one who is worthy of praise) Ali (fourth rightly guided caliph). Only a few journalists (most notably Howard Cosell) accepted it at that time. Venerable boxing announcer Don Dunphy addressed the champion by his adopted name, as did British reporters. The adoption of this name symbolized his new identity as a member of the Nation of Islam.

Clay had discovered the Nation during a Golden Gloves tournament in Chicago in 1959, even writing a high school report on the organization. His school teachers at Louisville Central High were alarmed that a youngster with that much potential expressed interest in the nationalist faith. They dissuaded him from becoming involved. Many sportswriters of the early 1960s reported that it was Ali's brother, Rudy Clay, who converted to Islam first (estimating the date as 1962). Others wrote that Clay had been seen at Muslim rallies two years before he fought Liston. Ali's own version is that he did buy a copy of the "Muhammad Speaks" newspaper from a Muslim in Chicago, and a 45 rpm record by Minister Louis X (later Farrakhan) called "A White Man's Heaven is a Black Man's Hell."

Aligning himself with the Nation of Islam made him a lightning rod for controversy, turning the outspoken but popular champion into one of that era's most recognizable and controversial figures. Appearing at rallies with Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad and declaring his allegiance to him at a time when mainstream America viewed them with suspicion — if not outright hostility — made Ali a target of outrage, as well as suspicion. Ali seemed at times to provoke such reactions, with viewpoints that wavered from support for civil rights to outright support of separatism. For example, Ali once stated, in relation to integration: "We who follow the teachings of Elijah Muhammad don't want to be forced to integrate. Integration is wrong. We don't want to live with the white man; that's all."[6] And in relation to inter-racial marriage: "No intelligent black man or black woman in his or her right black mind wants white boys and white girls coming to their homes to marry their black sons and daughters."[6] Indeed, Ali's religious beliefs at the time included the notion that the white man was "the devil" and that white people were not "righteous." Ali claimed that white people hated black people.

Ali converted from the Nation of Islam sect to mainstream Sunni Islam in 1975. In a 2004 autobiography, written with daughter Hana Yasmeen Ali, Muhammad Ali attributes his conversion to the shift toward Sunni Islam made by W.D. Muhammad after he gained control of the Nation of Islam upon the death of Elijah Muhammad in 1975.

Personal life

Muhammad Ali has been married four times and has seven daughters and two sons. Ali met his first wife, cocktail waitress Sonji Roi, approximately one month before they married on August 14, 1964. Roi's objections to certain Muslim customs in regard to dress for women contributed to the breakup of their marriage. They divorced on January 10, 1966.

On August 17, 1967, Ali (aged 25) married 17-year old Belinda Boyd. After the wedding, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Khalilah Ali, though she was still called Belinda by old friends and family. They had four children: Maryum (b. 1968), Jamillah and Liban (b. 1970), and Muhammad Ali Jr. (b. 1972).

However, Ali began an affair with a young woman named Veronica Porsche in 1975. By the summer of 1977, Ali's second marriage was over and he had married Veronica. At the time of their marriage, they had a baby girl, Hana, and Veronica was pregnant with their second child. Their second daughter, Laila, was born in December of 1977. By 1986, Ali and Veronica were divorced.

On November 19, 1986, Ali married Yolanda Ali. They had been friends since 1964 in Louisville. Their mothers were close friends, although Lonnie has publicly denied the popular notion that Muhammad Ali was once her babysitter. They have one adopted son, Asaad.

Ali has two other daughters, Miya and Khaliah, from extramarital relationships.

The images below come from a card-stock poster I found at a miniature flea-market of sorts an elderl

The images below come from a card-stock poster I found at a miniature flea-market of sorts an elderly Fassi would hold pretty regularly on the north side of the Qarawiyyin Mosque. He had, among other things, a couple other similar posters, along with random booklets, magazines, spoons and forks, and various trinkets and odds and ends. The iconography is what caught my eye- while iconography of various kinds is common enough in Morocco, this particular example stood out for its colorfulness and the sheer volume of visual activity in one piece of card-stock. I don't know the origin or the history of this document, other than that it was probably produced in Fes, as one of the scenes is of Ahmad al-Tijani, whose zaouia is only a few streets over from al-Qarawiyyin.

Ahmad al-Tijani, on of the most prominent saints in Fes these days. His zaouia is particularly popular with pilgrims making the Hajj coming from West Africa. The Arabic text next to the picture- not pictured here- reads: 'The sheik Saint Ahmad al-Tijani was a man virtuous, pious and (qūran- not sure of this word), a Sufi and the sheik of the brotherhood (ţariqa) that traces its origin to him. Originally from Algeria, he immigrated to the city of Fes and adopted it as his residence. Many followed after him in Morocco and in black Africa. Finally, he died in the city of Fes around the year 1165 of the Hajira and was buried in it; God have mercy on him.'

A scene depicting 'The battle of Said 'Ali with Ra's al-Ghul (the demon's head, al-ghul being the source of the English word ghoul, incidentally).' The caption inside of Ali's halo reads 'our master (saiduna) 'Ali.' John Renard writes concerning this particular iconographic subject: 'Pictures of 'Ali engaged in combat against the demon of woeful countenance known as Ra's al-Ghul are among the most prominent North African examples of this first type [images of religious heroes]. Here Muhammad's son-in-law displays the essential trait of the religious hero, willingness to engage the forces of evil and injustice. 'Ali usually dispatches the demon with a stroke of his forked sword, Dhu 'l-Faqar (the cleaver), which he inherited from Muhammad. The sword provides a natural iconographic clue to the hero's identity.' (Seven Doors to Islam, pp. 97-8)

'Ali, along with his two sons, is also featured in another panel on the poster, with 'Ali seated and his sons standing next to him- not nearly as exciting as the one above. If you are at all familiar with Islam you will probably be aware that veneration of 'Ali is most often associated with Shia Islam; however, Sufism in general from its initial stages had a high place for 'Ali, and continues to do so in various forms. This is especially true in North Africa: 'North African tradition, particularly in Tunisia, regards 'Ali as a high exemplar for youth. He was "the first adolescent to have embraced the new religion without ever having previously bowed down to any idol or worshipped a deity other than God." 'Ali is morever the father of two sons who model ideal behavior for young people. Before they were martyrs, Hasan and Husayn were children of a heroic father. And as youthful martyrs, the two embody innocence and purity standing firm in the face of evil.' (Ibid.)

Here we have a picture of the tomb of Muhammad, 'the exalted prophet' according to the text above the tomb. Obviously, this an image that would resonate all across the Islamic world, though I suspect it has a special resonance in North Africa where the tombs of saints are particularly important as sources of baraka, blessing/grace/power.

One more- the famous Buraq, the winged creature that features in the story of Muhammad's Night Journey.

KENAPAKAH BERLAKUNYA PEPERANGAN JAMAL?

Mereka bangun sebelum terbitnya fajar, jumlah mereka menghampiri 1000 orang.

5. Muawiya: Han gjorde ikke særlig meget foruden at røve kalifatet Efter at have forgiftet og dræbt alle hans modstandere, heriblandt Imam Al-hAssan.

Had an interesting Bank holiday Weekend up & downs.

Friday night I was keen as mustered to go out “on it” trying to rouse the troops provide damn difficult, normal drink companion’s were ether partnered up, working or inconsiderably away!?!

Sat at home watching tv great start to the bank holiday weekend even worse a girl I had met at a party around Christmas time (didn’t remember meeting her even after I saw pic’s of us together on fb lol) was out & seemed interested in meeting up I didn’t fancy lone gunning it to meet up with her. It transpired I must had made a very good impression on her as she wasn’t having a great night dumped her friends & got a taxi to my house much to my house mate amusement.

I never had a girl turn up to my door like that, ok I never enlightened her to the fact I couldn’t remember her one jot!

So Friday night was a success & I never had to move off the couch.

Saturday night was a mutely run ending in Oceana the troops had assembled & Fran was down (boy now lives in bath) & at the age of 25 has had enough of being called Fran & is going to use his middle name James. As we are good friends and supportive that night we all decided to use are middle names as the drinking continued much confusion ensued lol.

Sunday Morning I was furious “S” had text me earlier in the week about meeting up at the weekend. I said Sunday heard nothing back, text on Sat saying Id be at her’s Sunday morning just after 10am (normal time for us to meet) checked face book Sunday morning I had received a wall post from her Sat asking what are plans were Sunday. 10am Im stood outside her house and she’s not in or not answering the door also not answering her phone :( after 4-5 missed phone calls & one very stroppy text I get a reply along the lines of “we never arranged a time to meet”!?! Yes technically true but she had credit & knew what time I was turning up and just let me.

My house mate refuses to talk to me about the situation. Which is good & I think I shall do the same with my mates from now on your give an ear to listen, pass on advice once, twice, thrice & that’s it. Just say” I'm not even going to discus it with you any more, you know what happens & what will happen but you still put yourself through it”

Sadly I’m not surprised, had an inkling that outcome was the only one that morning. I know her so well that I can tell when she’s push- push pushing people away, this time it looks like she’s pushed me right in to somebody else arms. I feel I had to be stood there that morning to realise I needed to let it & her go.

I’ve blanked her since.

Sunday was a Barbican afternoon run which took in watching “mad dog” on the court steps & end up north hill in what I like to call the “Cuba effect”

The Cuba effect is when you fall out of a night club. Annabells being this one in particular & end up going Cuba bar for no other reason then its open. You end up wasting the very wee small hours there & getting home 4 or 5ish. Being an ex student I have Cuba effect if your a towny you have the very similar if not so nice Clipper effect

Monday spent being very very tired. I pick up Ali (dial-a-girl girl lol) had a lovely lunch out the Crocked Inn I do recommend the place. we sat in the beer garden watching mother duck & her four fluffy ducklings amble past, Then Ice cream at the beach afterwards all very quaint.

I quite like Ali, seeing her later this week Thursday I think.

Before I get to the article proper, I'd like to give a *wave* to Ali. She was a bit miffed at not being mentioned in here before Michaela was, so she's getting a proper welcome. Ali is probably one of the first British people that I ever started talking to, and I've known her for what... 4 years now? She's a great friend, and someone I can always count on to put things into perspective. I have spent more money on phone calls to her than I've spent on anyone else, and it's worth every penny. She's a big influence in my moving to England, and I can't wait to actually meet her. I'll probably write more on Alix later though.

On to the topic at hand!

Most everyone has one at some point in their lives. You hate it, it's garbage, and being seen with it is embarrassing, but you bear it and make the best you can. While some may find this to be an accurate description of parents, I'm referring to your first car. I've had mine for a couple years now, and in 2 days she'll be gone. This is a tribute.

Here she is, my (searched image of a) 1998 Dodge Stratus. Crappy, ain't she? First I'd like to point out that this wasn't actually my first car. Before this I had a 1994 pickup of some sort. It was red, standard, and had holes in the dashboard from high heels. Needless to say, that thing was abused to all hell, and nobody was surprised when the transmission dropped out of it. Why isn't this topic about that? Because I wasn't the one who paid for it, that's why. And that's digression.

I bought the Stratus in February of 2006. My truck had just died, and I was looking for a quick replacement. I had basically no savings, about $800 was it. So I went to some of the smaller used car lots. Eventually I ended up at a small place in Belle River, owned by a man that my grandfather knew. After a couple trips out there, test-driving a few cars, I decided on a the Stratus. Why a purple car? It wasn't the manliest choice, but it was the cheapest thing that didn't seem like it was going to fall apart. I ended up getting a loan from the kind people at Citi Financial, put my $800 down as a deposit, and drove her home.

Notice where I said 'didn't seem like it was going to fall apart'? Looks can be deceiving. The very next morning, I pulled her out of the garage, and noticed that there was a large puddle of oil on the floor. Which is strange, since I've never actually kept oil pooled on the floor. So back I went to see what the fuck the problem was. And what a problem it was. The head gasket was blown. Now, lemon laws would cover it, but I'd sprung for the extra warranty anyway, so it was covered. What it meant was I had to drive around the shop truck for a couple of days, holding onto the door handle for dear life, since that was the best way to keep the door attached to the thing. When I picked the Stratus up, everything worked fine, and life was good.

The thing about living in the area I do, is that when the temperature changes, it changes fast. We don't have seasons like Spring and Autumn, we have 2 modes. Ice and fire. Ice was no problem, since the heater worked perfectly fine, but when did that lovely overnight switch to fire, my car decided that it didn't agree with my decision to use the air conditioner, and refused to kick out any cold air. Back to the dealership, where I hoped it was under warranty. Wasn't, but my Grandfather's friend was kind enough to do it anyway, and then charge the insurance people for something else. Makes sense to me at least. But that was it I was told, no more favours. It suited me fine, since I'd paid off the car by then, and was starting to save up money again. Plus, I worked at a garage anyway, so I figured that it wouldn't be that bad. Everything was fine, and an entire year passed without a problem whatsoever.

One day, driving 140km/h down a back road, I 'neglected' to slow down when coming to a road that crossed and made a decently large bump. This, everyone, was the first time that I'd ever made a car fly. I landed rather hard, and the cd in the stereo started skipping. I somehow managed to screw it up, and to this day, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out will not eject from the thing. The radio is fine though, so I didn't really mind until I started noticing oil leaking again. I checked it myself, and it wasn't the head gasket. What I'd done was twofold. I'd smashed open the oil filter, and put a small hole in the oil pan. The filter I noticed and changed right away. The oil pan took me a while to catch on to. It wasn't until Thanksgiving weekend that I actually decided to fix the oil pan with some weld-putty. The putty was actually in my glove box while I was on my way home when my oil light came on. 11 seconds later my engine decided that it hated me and seized.

Towed her behind another car back to the garage, and weighed my options. I could spend $2000 and put a new engine in the car, or I could just buy a new car. By this point, I'd already decided that I was moving to Toronto, so getting a new car was a bit much. I ended up spending my entire savings putting a new engine in the car, along with tie-rods and brakes. But, since everything was now pretty new on the car, I was set.

Then, a few months back on my way home from Toronto, I blew a tire. Luckily I was able to pull off the highway without killing anyone, and went to change it. My tire iron, however, isn't the proper size for the bolts. So I get a tow-truck to come and change it for me (God, that's emasculating, especially when I change tires and work on cars all the time). He tells me that I need new ball joints. Explains the squeaking that I've been hearing, fine. Another $800.

And here we are today. everything is fixed other than the fact that my air conditioning is broken again and there's still a squeaking noise. Oh well. My brother will inherit the car, problems included, on Wednesday. That's when my insurance expires and I refuse to pay for another month. I'll only be here for another week.

Maybe next time I won't go cheap on my vehicle purchase. Tune in (maybe) tomorrow for one of my more interesting trips with the car. The trip to ROCK ON THE RANGE!

"Dia bertanya apakah aku punya alergi.

milis motivasi

Many people know about Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali, but do you know about Olympic Games Legend Muhammad Ali? Read on for a boxing profile of this great Olympic Medalist.

Muhammad Ali has also been known as Cassius Clay in his lifetime, but he was actually born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.

Ali was a world heavyweight boxing champion that fought his way into the country and the world’s affection. Outspoken and unrelenting, Ali began his boxing career back in 1954. Ali, then known as Clay, won 6 Golden Gloves contents in Kentucky, 2 golden gloves titles that were national and 2 Amateur Athletic Union Crowns.

It was in 1960 that he won a gold medal in the Summer Olympics in Rome. He later threw that gold medal in the Ohio River when he found that racism in Louisville was rife. It was in 1960 that he became a professional boxer.

It wasn’t long before he became the heavyweight champion, picking up the title in 1964. He was the underdog in this content with the renowned Sonny Liston, however Clay taunted his way through 5 rounds, winning the title. It was in 1964 that Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali after becoming a Black Muslim.

Ali has been controversial for most of his life. It was in 1966/67 that Ali was stripped of his heavyweight championship, had his boxing license taken away from him because he bluntly refused to partake in the Vietnam War. Regardless of his controversy and his outspoken nature, Muhammad Ali was a talented and gifted boxer.

In 1970, Ali took up boxing again but had to go to Atlanta to fight. Georgia had no boxing commission and so he was able to enter the ring despite his previous ban.

In 1971, Ali fights against Joe Frazier the heavyweight champ in Madison Square Garden. Ali loses to Frazier in the 15th round. It was in June this year that the Supreme Court reverses the decision of his ban due to his draft evasion, and Ali fights again.
Ali gets his heavyweight title back in 1974 after knocking out George Foreman in Zaire. He successfully used his famous rope strategy against him and let Foreman tire himself out while Ali conserved his energy and then attacked.

Ali and Frazier meet again in the ring in the Philippines in 1975. The two champions fight until they are bloodied and battered. The battle between them is long and ferocious, eventually in the 15th round, Frazier cannot continue and Ali wins.

In 1978, Lai has an outstanding career record of 55 wins to two losses. He loses his winning belt to Spinks, but 7 months later, Ali wins back his belt from Spinks. Ali decides to retire from his lucrative boxing career in 1979 but comes back out of retirement in 1980.

In 1984, Ali was sadly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and he begins his slow and long deterioration. In 1996, Ali carried the Olympic torch to the lighting of the cauldron in Atlanta in the Summer Olympics. A gold medal was given to Ali to replace the one he threw away 36 years prior.
