I do backups on HP DAT72 USB internal as follows:
- from monday to thursday of set "backup"
# General configuration section

# Archive type? afio, dump, tar, cpio, star, pax, zip, lha, ar, shar
# 'copy' or 'rsync' are extra options if running in archive-to-disk mode.
# 'filelist' dumps a list of files in your cwd - for debugging setup/exclusion
$type = 'afio';

# Configure backup "sets".
# Not needed if you use "-dir " to backup one tree at a time.
# Each set is a simple space-separated list of filesystems
# Remote filesystems should denoted as 'host:dir'
# You can use anything (other than 'all') as set names
#
# Example:
# $set{'set1'} = "/home /usr";
# $set{'set2'} = "/dir3 machine2:/dir4 machine3:/dir5";
#
# "-set all" will back up all defined sets. If you are doing a full backup
# using tapes, each "set" will go onto a different tape and you will be
# prompted for tape change in between.
#
$set{'backup'} = "/etc /home/archivio /home/storico";
$set{'test'} = "/etc";
$set{'homes'} = "/home";

# Examples:
# Linux SCSI: /dev/nst0 Linux IDE: /dev/nht0
# Linux ftape: /dev/nqft0 FreeBSD SCSI: /dev/nrsa0 (4.x compat device node)
# FreeBSD SCSI: /dev/nsa0 (5.x)

Finally, I am not lazy enough to write a new post. Sorry for not making any updates for a while. Anyway, I am going to go over the bio section of the DAT. Alot of people think this is the most important section and thus spend the most time preparing for it. My best advice for this section is NOT TO OVERSTUDY. This section requires a really broad knowledge that you can study all summer just for this section and not get a perfect score. If you want a really high score on this section, you really should already have a solid biology background. That being said, I am gonna go over what and how I studied and talk about a few questions/trends I remember from the real DAT.

Like other people, I spent studying for bio as much as the other sections combined. I first started reading the blue kaplan DAT review book. After reading it, I didn't remember much. So I read it again one more time. But this time, I wrote out the whole bio section word for word almost. Writing it out helped me to retain alot of the stuff I read. Even after reading the blue kaplan book twice, I didn't feel it prepared me sufficient enough. Then I moved on to the Princeton Review MCAT hyper learning book. This book explain difficult concepts really well; even the ones I didn't grasp completely during my bio classes. Like how I did for the kaplan blue book, I wrote princeton review book out. I was literally a manual printing machine. Anyway, this book gave me a clear understanding of all the major concepts. After this, I think I took the topscore test to see where I was. I think I was getting 20-23 on bio section for topscore. From topscore, I felt I didn't go over a few sections as well as I wanted to. So I got the Barron's AP bio book and my undergrad intro bio textbook study guide. The study guide has tons of practice multiple choice questions and I did all of those.

When I felt that I was ready for the DAT, I went to take it. Questions were really basic and straightforward. It was either you know it or you don't. One question was "what is (a blood disease, I wont mention the specific name)?" or ''what transports water in the plants?". Pretty easy if you know your stuff. No tricks or anything. I am also pretty sure that 99% of the questions that were on the test were covered in the Barron's AP Bio book. So I highly recommend it.

One last thing I forgot to mention is that, if you don't understand a cycle or concept, look at the figures or find and watch video clips of it. It helps alot.

The importance of your DAT (Dental admission Test) is going to be relative to the schools to which you apply. Take a look at your intended school's average DAT scores in the past few years. You can find this information in the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools.

There are a number of study guides for the DAT, including the Kaplan DAT with CD-ROM, 2007-2008 Edition. While Kaplan is probably the most well known, there are a number of other very good study guides. Barron's How to Prepare for the Dental Admissions Test is also quite good.

During my own preparation for the DAT I was very satisfied with TopScore Pro for the DAT. It contained 3 complete exams that are in the exact format of the DAT. It appeared just as if you were taking the exam, except it includes a small timer in the corner to let you know how your pace is doing compared to where you should be in the exam. With that timer you are aware if you are ahead or behind in your timing.

I might also suggest taking a look at the How To Ace Your DAT blog. You can find some good tips there to help you improve your score.

I'm sure many, many people have heard about this by now and I get the tingly feeling inside (purely non-sexual) when someone finally steps up to this garbage by new artist "Soulja Boy" and tells him what I've been thinking for so long: "that shit's garbage". I don't know if this was recorded from the radio or whatever the source but on YouTube a voice recording has been uploaded many times and I love listening to it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZHCN2bHp_7k

He talks about how people actually came from bad places to make something; to make good music. Clearly, Soulja Boy made it with a lot less effort but creating a "dance" video based on Superman, no less. I don't listen to rap or Hip-Hop anymore because of the garbage out there these days. I used to listen to all the good rappers and these days it's nothing but shit and I hope more artists stand up to this shit that is getting albums. The only reason they're successful is because America doesn't care about the quality as long as you can dance to it.

Whatever the case, it's not real shit but just garbage produced to make someone quick money and people fall for it all the time and it really fucking sucks.

Anyway, now we move on to Souja Boy's intelligible response.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qr8B2dnIvR4&

So, this is basically 7 min, 41 seconds of Soulja Boy saying "DIZ NIGGA OLD AZ FUCK" and his two boyfriends laughing in the background. He says he respects Ice-T and then is quick to say "YOU OLD AZ FUK" again and again. Somewhere in this waste of life he states that the "game has changed" and "people have made it easy for new artists to come in" and other shit. But what it all comes down to is that he's essentially admitting that it's a lot easier to get into the game and make a one-hit wonder.

I sincerely hope that I never have to listen to a ridiculous fad such as "CRANK DAT SOULJA BOY" again and if I do, I might have to kill myself. But hopefully we get to see the headline of a paper being "Soulja Boy Assassinated because he fucking sucks" and we all live in peace.

gift

1. prize

Wow, organ starts out the song, after a bit synths drive up the sound. The chorus sounds pretty catchy, then again a lot of their stuff is, so I can't really make it a good thing huh. Actually the chord progressions are actually quite nice to hear. Misono sounds oh so strong in this song, which is a bit too loud actually. I love the solo from the guitarist really sets this song in stone.

2. faraway

Actually more stronger than "prize". It's definitly more relient on the synths which isn't real bad. Misono does sound a bit different than in the previous song too, which does set you off a bit thinkin, where's our normal vibrato-heavy Misono? Still, it's a pretty awesome single from them.

3. gradually

A little more cosmic sounding in the beginning, it actually is a bit more slow on the tempo range. I'm actually finally hearing acoustic guitar within the song. She kind of sounds a bit messy in this song, so I'm not such a fan of this. I also kinda don't like how there's so much percussion, I think it would've been better a ballad....x.x

4. vivace

Kickin the pace back is vivace, I actually quite enjoy this song. This space synths really helped it out too. Though once again, I also feel that this song is very forgettable, it's not that I'm bored with it, it's just that when comparing to the other track with the same properties, you're left with fillers, I kind of felt this is the filler track of the mini-album. I so <3 the synth solo too much.

5. for you

This track, right here is their best from this album. I just love how forceful the drum beats get and Misono's enthusiastic vocals mixed with great sound from the keyboard. The chorus actually is even more catchy, all fast and then slows to make sense. ~Love Song for you~ ends the chorus, and Misono sounds good at English here.

6. gift

The mini-album ends with I'm guessing the Christmas tune, obviously meant from the overall sound of the song and the title. It's a ballad folks too, so you might wanna watch out because this is Misono singing XD. She sounds off a lot which is pretty bad. It isn't til she hits her medium range where she's alright. The low side needs workin done. All in all, this track just dragged on for me *sigh* Dang, XMAS songs....

dat's 1st mini-album was an alright one. Though all the songs are pretty forgettable, well maybe not "for you", still there were problems in here, like wrong stylings, too much percussion, and Misono's control on her vocals. Though it sorta does get better when she becomes a solo artist.

1. faraway

Part of this song is rock, part of it is pop. Great mix of the keyboards and guitar in this song. Misono sounds actually quite well in this song, I have to say. She doesn't go too low or go too high which is alright. A very pretty cool pop/rock song. It's definitly a great single to start with.

dat's debut single had soooo many remixes, though the main track is definitly a strong track to start off for their 1st mini-album. Go get complete Best it has their full discography, so it's definitly worth mentioning.

Based on my test, it seems like they like to know if you have a good understanding of the funamental mechanisms such as SN1, SN2, E1, E2, etc.. ALOT of problems dealt with those mechanisms. Additionally, there were several problems on individual reactions. You should cover the major ones that were covered in your ochem lectures. Don't need to know any difficult ones as well as the obscure reactions. The key in this section is fundamental. Now, I was horrible with ochem; I was barely pulling Bs in them. However, on the real test, I was able to get a 22.

How I studied for ochem

1. Read both Kaplan DAT Blue Book and Kaplan DAT White Book a couple of times. Wrote out the funamental mechanisms and important/major reactions.

2. If I didn't understand something I went to The Princeton Review Hyperlearning MCAT Biological Sciences Review . This book is awesome because it explains things really well.

I did not use any other review books besdies the ones I mentioned above. I think these books are all you really need along with the practice test softwares. If you do as what I say, you should be fine with this section. Good luck.

For the hole punching section, I really didn't come up with any innovative method. The only thing I did was to go over the ones I missed during the practice tests. The most difficult part of hole punching is probably the half hole punching. If you don't get how these holes would turn out when they are unfolded, just get some paper and try them on your own. Other than that, you should not have too much problem with this section. One thing to note is, though, you must speed through this section without losing accuracy to leave more time for the other sections.

Before I go over cube counting and hole punching, I would like to go over one important aspect of PA

Before I go over cube counting and hole punching, I would like to go over one important aspect of PAT section: time management. Although you are given 60 minutes for the whole section, you should not (or must not) spend an equal amount of time for each problem. Regardless of difficulty of the each subsection, there are a few subsections that you need to spend much less time than others. These are angle ranking, cube counting, and hole punching. You must speed through the angle ranking section because although it is difficult, spending more time on this section won't give you a better answer. Like I said in the previous post, look at the angles closely and carefully and pick your best answer and move on. Also, you need not spend much time on cube counting and hole punching because they are the easiest part of PAT. Using this guideline and your assessment/aptitude of each subsection of PAT, you need to distribute your 60 minutes appropriately.

Going back to cube counting and hole punching, they are perhaps the two easiest section on the real PAT section. They are right on par with topscore in terms of difficulty. Perhaps, there were 1 or 2 half-hole punching on the real one (if I remember correctly) like the ones on DAT Achiever but the rest were really simple to do. If you are already good with these sections, don't bother reading this post. It probably won't help you much.

Cube Counting:

I used this simple method that I made to do all the cube counting problems.

I will continue next time.

This section of PAT may be the easiest section on the practice tests. On the real test, however, it

This section of PAT may be the easiest section on the practice tests. On the real test, however, it is the hardest. Why? Because on the real test, the angles differ by very few degrees. So don't be fooled by the practice tests that this section is easy. For this section, basically, there is really only one thing you could do to do well. It is really simple, yet overlooked. It is to look really closely. I have read some people suggesting to look from far. To me, this makes no sense. Two really similiar angles should look more similiar and similiar as you view it farther and farther. So when you are having trouble deciding which angle is bigger/smaller, look at one angle really closely and then look at the other one. Then based on your best judgement, decide which angle is bigger and smaller. I think this is the only legitimate thing to do for this section.

Recommended Books

1. DAT Achiever. Their angle ranking problems are harder than the other practice tests.

2. Barron's How to Prepare for the Dental Admissions Test (Dat) Another decent DAT book that has good angle ranking problems although not as good as DAT Achiever's

3. *** STRONGLY RECOMMENDED*** Crack DAT PAT for the Dental Admission Test . Never tried it myself because I never knew this product existed at the time I was preparing for my DAT. But I have heard alot of good things about this product. So give it a try!

EDIT: PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMMENTING THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PRACTICE FOR THE PAT SECTION. IT'S A MUST FOR PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO ACE THE PAT SECTION.

4. Kaplan DAT 2008-2009 Edition (with CD-ROM) (Kaplan Dat (Dental Admission Test)). Their angle ranking problems are way easier than the real ones. You should be getting perfect on these. At least 14/15.

If you still need extra problems, you can make some of your own. Have someone make you some angle ranking problems using a protractor.

Time spent: 40 Minutes

By no means, I am a good or fast reader. I never liked to read books my entire life and stil do not

By no means, I am a good or fast reader. I never liked to read books my entire life and stil do not read much unless it's required. However, I was able to do well on the DAT RC section because I used this simple method to answer all the questions. I am sure if you have tried to find a good strategy for RC on the SDN, you probably have heard of this method. The method is to NOT read the passage beforehand, but go to the questions first and start answering them right away.

My Strategy in Detail

1. Read the first question.

2. If it is a fact/detail question, skim through the passage and find the paragraph that has relevant information. If you did not find it, skip it.

3. Once you found it, read the paragraph with full attention. (Go to step 6)

4. Answer the question.

5. If it is a tone/inference question, skip it for now.

6. Move on to the next question.

7. Repeat the steps 2-6 for the rest of the questions.

8. By now, you will have read most of the passage. Go back to the skipped fact/detail question first.

9. You should be able to locate them more easily now since you have read most of it.

10. Now, go to the skipped tone/inference questions. If you have skipped any paragraph, read them now.

11. Answer the tone/inference questions as best as you can.

12. Don't leave any blanks and move on to the next passage.

Things to note

This method is efficient because although you end up reading the entire passage, you won't have to read any paragraph more than once if you follow it correctly. I finished the entire RC section with 10 minutes to go and as I said before, I am not a fast reader.

Also, while looking for the answer to a question and you find the answer to a previously skipped question, go back to the question and answer it right away.

The most difficult thing about this method is to stay calm and relaxed. Sometimes, you may not find the right paragraph so easily. But do not panic. Stay calm and move on to the next question. Sometimes, you might have a few questions skipped consecutively. But stay calm still. In order to stay calm, you just gotta practice alot and build alot of experience doing this method.

This method is NOT for someone who wants to reall get like 25 on RC. If you really want that high score, you will already have to be a very fast and active reader. If you are not, just stick to my method. My method is for someone who is not a good reader like me but wants to get over 20 on RC section.

Recommended books: None, just follow my method although you can buy DAT Achiever and TopScore for practice.

That is all for RC section for now. If I remember anything relevant, I will come back and add more.

Time spent writing this post: 1 hour and 20 minutes. Yes, I am a slow writer too (hate english).

Today, I will continue on where I left off from last post.
Geometry - Unfortunately, I don’t

Today, I will continue on where I left off from last post.

Geometry - Unfortunately, I don't remember any geometry problems from the test I took. But I am pretty sure there were some. Know stuff like circumference/area of a circle. Don't think you have to worry about proofs, I highly doubt it will be on it. Just know the basic, commonly used formulas. If you did well in geometry in high school, I wouldn't worry about a bit.

Trigonometry - Know sine, cosine, and tangent. And their identities. I mean the most you can expect is like finding a unknown side/angle of a common(i.e. 30-60-90) right triangles. Memorizing those common trig values (i.e. sin 60, cos 30, tan 45, etc) may be useful and save you some time if you see them on the test. Other than that, I don't really have much to say.

Word problems - Yes there are lots of these. It uses combination of every topic listed above. My suggestion is to skim the problem really quick once and have some kind of idea what kind of problem it is. Then read it once more carefully this time and work out the problem.

Overall, this section is not hard in terms of difficulty but may be hard because of the time issue. If you get stuck on a problem, SKIP it and come back later. For me, time was not an issue maybe because I was already pretty fast. Anyway, if you think your major problem is time, just practice and practice. That's all you can do. Also, don't make foolish calculation error, because that's like losing points for something you know. I hate it, you hate it.

Before I end this post, I want to recommend some of the materials you should use to practice.

1. Kaplan Online QR practice problems. I think they are harder than the real ones but still a good practice.

2. TopScore. Very good questions. Most reliable predictor of how well you will do on the real test.

3. Kaplan DAT 2008-2009 Edition (with CD-ROM) (Kaplan Dat (Dental Admission Test)). Decent questions, good for practicing.

4. Free Practice GMAT Math Test by ETS. Go to their website and find it. I am too lazy to look for it myself now, heh. A bit harder than DAT QR if I remember correctly.

5. Math Workbook for the New SAT (Barron's Math Workbook for the Sat I)3rd Edition. Man, if you are running out of problems to do and want to do more, try this one. Lots of problems.

6. DAT achiever. I almost forgot. The QR questions from this software is more representative of the real thing. You can get it here. http://3tquest.com/index.html

7. Crack DAT PAT & Crack DAT MATH "Bundle Package" for the Dental Admission Test. Extra problems. Get all the problems you can.

That's all for the QR section. If I remember anything relevant, I will definately add them.

Here, I am sitting down on my computer unable to watch the Lakers game since I don’t have dam

Here, I am sitting down on my computer unable to watch the Lakers game since I don't have damn cable. (Yes, I started yesterday). So I am going to write my first real post regarding how to do well on DAT. This post will go over how I studied for the QR section of the DAT. I am going over this section first because I got the best score out of all the sections. I believe I only got one question wrong since I got a 29. But before I go into any detail, I would like to talk about one important tip on studying for the DAT. Some of you may know but I am sure there are people who do not know it but should know it. If you go to the DAT website, there's a study guide made by the DAT people. If you are lazy to find it on your own, here is the link, http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/dat/dat_examinee_guide_2008.pdf. Most of the stuff in the pdf file are pretty much useless in preparing for the DAT except the test specification section (page 18-19). This is what I used to figure out what to study for each section. If you conquer all the topics listed in that section, I guarantee you will do well on your test.

So going back to quantitative reasoning, the guide lists the topics that must be studied.

Algebra - equations and expressions, inequalities, exponential notation, absolute
value, ratios and proportions, and graphical analysis;

Numerical calculations - fractions and decimals,
percentages, approximations and scientific notation;

Conversions - temperature, time, weight, and distance;

Probability and Statistics;

Geometry;

Trigonometry;

Applied Mathematics (word) Problems.

Those are the topics that you must be familiar with before going into the testing center. Do not overestimate any of the topics. For example, you must know the conversion for time, distance, temperature, and weight. I know one of my friends had a question on temperature conversion and I had a question that required a distance conversion.

Honestly, I have to say that if you know your high school math, you should do well. However, I do believe the difficulty of QR section lies in the limited amount of time rather than the difficulty of each problem. My best advice for you is to brush up on all the topics and PRACTICE. But before you do mass practice, let's go over each topic.

Algebra - really basic. If you don't know basic algebra, there are tons of resources on the internet that you can probably use. On my test, I saw quite a few basic algebra equation problems, but I don't remember seeing any graphical analysis or inequalities. Still, I recommend you should still know them.

Numerical calculation - Don't really have much to say about this section although I saw a few of these. Just practice if you are slow.

Conversions - Yes, these are on the test. If you want to get a 20+, you better know your conversions. I don't think it's necessary to know every single conversion in the world, but if you know the major ones you should be fine. For example, celsius to farenheit, miles to km, inches to cm, lbs to kg, and so on. Don't worry about all the obscure ones, just know the ones you have seen in your life many times.

Probability and Statistics - Probably the hardest section for most people and for me. I had about four of these problems and I did not know how to do two of them. Fortunately, I had some extra time to do one of them manually without using any formula. Anyway, learn to do these types of problems. Know permutations and combinations for sure.

Ok, I am tired of writing, I will continue next time.

Hi, I am making this blog to help out people who are struggling but want to ace the DAT. To briefly introduce myself, I am a predental student who will be going to a dental school in east coast this coming August. I took my DAT in 2006 and did pretty well on it (24 AA). I know studying for DAT was not an easy task; I spent my entire 2006 summer to prepare for the test. In this blog, I am going to go over various relevant topics. It won't be, however, be so constructive and organized; I am just going to write whatever that comes into my mind on any day. So stay tuned.

Actually, not just .wmv but any video files that the VLC Player can play it can convert to .mp4! The list includes popular video format such as VCD's .dat/.mpg, DVD Video's .vob, etc. The process is technically call Transcoding, and it's simple, fast and best of all, free-of-charge.

Launch VLC Player and select the "Streaming/Exporting Wizard…" from its File menu.

Select the "Transcode/Save to file" option.

Click the "Choose…" button and select your .wmv file.

Tick "Transcode video" and select the "H.264" codec and 1024 kb/s.

Tick "Transcode audio" and select the "MPEG 4 Audio" codec and 192 kb/s.

Select "MPEG 4/ MP4" as the Encapsulation format.

Click the "Choose…" button and Save As "NewFileName.mp4" to your Desktop.

Click "Finish" to begin transcoding.

In Step 7, tick the "Local playback" option if you want to watch and transcode your .wmv in real-time. Needless to say, do not tick it for speedier transcoding.

You can further use MPEG Streamclip to process the .mp4 to an iPod compliant copy.

Raspuns : o persoana tine zidul, cealalta cladeste.

Last Tuesday I went to bed and I left my laptop on, as I often do. They say that they live longer if you don't keep switching them on and off all the time, because circuit boards and other components suffer badly from thermal stress. I am not sure if this has a noticeable effect on the life of a computer, but anyway, my poor old laptop takes soooo long to boot up and open a session that I usually leave it on all night.

Next morning I found it with a blank (i.e. black) screen and the dreaded message "No boot device can be found". First thought: "it has rebooted". Second thought: "and it cannot start". I press the power switch to turn it off, wait 5 seconds (they say you need to wait for the capacitors to discharge ;-)) and switch it on again. Dell logo, first boot messages, and click, click, click, click, click...

The hard disk was clicking. The click of death, as they say. Clicking noises inside a hard disk only mean one thing: there is something mechanical going wrong. I could visualise the disk heads landing on the platters and leaving a trailing trench and lots of nasty particles scattered all over the place. My precious data!

Backups? Yes, of course I do backups. But not every day. I would back up my data every day in a production environment, but for my home stuff I considered that weekly backups were enough. I have been thinking about buying some kind of low-cost NAS device for a few months, because doing backups to DVDs is a pain. I even considered buying a DAT tape unit, but they are expensive. So my backup policy at that glorious morning when my hard disk crashed was, more or less, weekly backups to DVD.

That was the policy. The crude reality was other. My last backup, which I hastily recovered from the cupboard, was dated on the 15th of May. Almost one month of lost work. Yes, I know this is my home laptop, but I do a lot of .NET development (mostly experiments and nerdy stuff), writing and emailing. Damn.

So I sat down, grabbed a sheet of paper and a pen and outlined my disaster recovery plan. Two steps: first, send the broken hard disk to a data recovery service place; second, get a new hard disk. Wait a moment. My laptop is already 4 years old, and even with a new hard disk it would not be much faster. So, why not make of this disaster a perfect excuse to buy a dazzling new machine?

After some minutes googling around, I decide on dtidata, a data recovery company that looks good. They say they don't charge you a cent if they don't get your data back, which looks reasonable to me. On getting a new machine, I spend five seconds pondering the possibility of buying a MacBook Pro and then jump straight into the Dell configurator. I've always been curious about the Precision mobile workstations, or whatever they are called. They are sexy little beasts. Well, not that little, since the Precision M90, the one I fancy, starts from 3.8 kg. But the 17-inch screen and the 2-GB RAM well deserve it.

I have shipped my broken hard disk, conveniently wrapped in bubble plastic (they call it "packed air"), and I have ordered a Precision M90. I only hope they can recover my data.
