Today was a full day filled with lots of fun activities. We first started out at the Austin Zoo. It was a small zoo with lots of big cats. We had read that it wasn't that big of a zoo and so we weren't disappointed when we arrived. It just seemed like an old, quiet zoo - which was fine with us! Afterwards we headed downtown and went to Chuy's (different from Phoenix Chuy's) for some takeout . Then took it down to Zilker Park for a spontaneous picnic and walk around the hike and bike trail.

Here are some of the pictures of the day:

OK, small not so huge thing, but I found two fun blogs dedicated to the exploration of “fug.

OK, small not so huge thing, but I found two fun blogs dedicated to the exploration of "fug." (Usual translations of this term are NSFW, if you're not aware of it, but I think this aspect of the adjective is toning down....)

First up is What Not to Crochet the title of which is pretty self explanatory, so I'll leave you to investigate. ^_^ The latest post involves a crocheted cat hat. 'Nuff said.

And then there's The Purse Blog's Fug Bag Blog, which is where this ... interesting (XD) image is from:

The more I think about this one, the more I see where the author was going with this rather entertaining comparison.

Anyway, these are not "sweet" reading, but frequently funny.

Only took 63 years or so but officials finally, officially, realized and recognized just what, exact

Only took 63 years or so but officials finally, officially, realized and recognized just what, exactly, the Tuskegee Airmen did for the United States. Well, in the pathetically late-to-the-party way only white lawmakers can in an election year ... but I digress ...

Good things DO come to those who wait ... and wait ... and wait.

Thousands of people from across the country attended the opening ceremony Friday afternoon at Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama.

"The Tuskegee Airmen had their beginning here at Moton Field and dared to make a difference," the Rev. William C. Lennard said.

Another FO!

I've finished my first clapotis, and I'm really happy with it, although the process was less than fun. I used Noro Silk Garden; it's rather expensive, and each skein had knots, which messed up the stripes. I also developed some kind of reaction, which actually made knitting painful! I don't know if it was the fibre, the dye or any other chemicals in it, but I don't plan on knitting with Noro again.

The pattern was rather simple, and I memorized the straight section, which made it nice, mindless knitting. It's the biggest thing I've ever made, and I was feeling kind of batty by the end - the straight section seemed to go on forever! Now that it's done and blocked, it's gorgeous, soft and has a wonderful drape to it. I gifted it to my Godmother; she really deserves something soft and pretty.

I went to work today and for the third weekend in a row no internet aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh! I need the Internet, I work in a real estate office and this is when I do most of my blogging and catch up reading is how I pull up properties and important stuff for the Realtors. The housing market really sucks right now, so as you can imagine the office is super quiet on the weekend and I forgot my book so the following sums up my day (warning photos are not flattering..lol).

More Bored or is it border? boreder? bordist? boredist? Never could spell..lol

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

On a positive note, Meggers is no longer walking with a limp. Yay! I don't think it was growing pains as we noticed two bruises on her leg and so far have three stories from her on how it happened. She fell off the monkey bars, it fell asleep, and daisy did it. Hmmm.. sounds like the first one might be the winner.

We all went to my sisters that Sunday for Logan's birthday party. Meggers was having a wee blast running around with her cousin and completely forgot about her leg, so no pediatrician appt. needed. It was nice, the whole family together having a laugh. Here are a few photos of the wee ones festivities.

Logan giggling while hubby dangled him upside down (only my husband. Sigh! lol)

Jeff Holmes, the lead singer and songwriter for The Floating Men was in town last night at Barking Legs Theater performing his last masterwork, "No Clocks, No Calendars." He calls it a "rock opera" and notes the work is "dense," and that's just how I've grown to enjoy his work.

Songs by Holmes have a lot of words crammed into three or four minutes, and they area vehicle for many ideas. The philosophy major is weaving Gullah folklore into a promiscuous tale of the perfect summer brought to a halt by a demon that locks his victims' souls in a grain of black sand.

He took time between acts I and II to expand on the work in progress and answer a few questions. As expected, it was an intimate show. It was like sitting in your living room and chatting with him as he performs.

It was also a great time with friends. We met at Hair of the Dog (I had the fish and chips, Julie had the pub burger; both delicious).

We got a surprise visit as well! One of Julie's college pals was in town. She rounded up another and the four of us met back at the house. We hung out and reminisced until about 4 a.m. before finally crashing to sleep. A great night (and morning)!

Busy, but fun.

Busy, but fun.

Local U. holds a 5K road race during homecoming weekend, and I volunteer every year to check runners in. I get there at 7 in the morning, help get the tables set up, put the tee-shirts out according to size, then I'm assigned four college kids to help me out. Two get the A-L table - one on the list with a ruler and a pen, one who finds the runners' numbers - one gets assigned the tee-shirt retrieval, and one gets to partner with me on the M-Z table (though, sometimes, just to mix it up, I take the A-L table. I'm reckless that way).

The race is actually pretty popular; in the seven or so years I've been doing this (I should go count my collection of tee-shirts to find out how long I've been volunteering, but I'm betting that seven is a reasonable estimate), I bet we've never had fewer than 300 runners.

I was a little disappointed this year, though. Every single year that I've done this, there's been a nun who comes with about six or seven kids to run the race. The nun was never particularly personable, so it's not as though I had any kind of relationship with her, but she was fun to look at; she always wore a gray habit, a big, plain wooden cross around her neck, and Asics running shoes poking out underneath it all. My bet is that she is the lead for her Catholic school's running club, and that they like to run the race. This year, though, my running nun was no where to be found. It made the day a little less fun for me to not have her there.

Distance running is something I will never understand. To me, "fun run" is an oxymoron. I get that a lot of people like it, and I respect that they do, I just don't understand it....

Once I finished up with my volunteer stint, I headed down to the fitness center to teach my yoga class (I'm on the Saturday rotating schedule, and this was one of my "on" weeks). I assessed a few more essays while I waited around for the class to start, and was a teeny tiny bit upset when only one person showed. I was hoping to have either a crowd or a complete bust - it's weird to teach a class of one and I could have used the time to finish up the essays I'd brought home with me. Nothing doing, though; she'd come, and she wanted to yoga, so I spent a somewhat awkward hour leading her through a practice.

I was pleased by how easily I got out of town - its being homecoming weekend and all - and arrived home to find my family all worked up about going apple picking. The problem with that plan, though, was twofold; first, there'd been a hail storm in early summer - at what was reported by the local papers to be the perfect worst time for apple trees to be beaten upon by flying balls of ice - and the result was a rotten crop. Second, it's pretty darned late in the season and I didn't think that any place nearby was still doing pick-your-own. We did a quick check online to see that both of those things were true, but we went to a local place anyway for some farmstand shopping and a hayride. We had a pretty darned good time (even if the hayride was geared for the toddler set. Whatever; there was candy involved, and I got some pretty good foliage pictures).

Once that was done, we piled in the car and headed for a quick fast-food lunch and then bought tickets to see City of Ember. Mr. Chili had read the story to the girls and they were pretty excited to see it. I went into the film with no preconceived notions and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The rest of my family seemed to like it pretty well, too; there was no vicious post-film critique going on in the car on the way home.

We did a run through the market before arriving home and the rest of the evening is unplanned. I have some more essays to evaluate and I might try to get over to see Xena as she recovers from knee surgery last week, but it's just as likely that I'll call her tonight and try to see her tomorrow. I kind of feel done right now.

How was YOUR day?

Wordpress keeps track of the number of views on this blog site. They tally them up daily and plot the results on a graph. Views can be checked daily, weekly or monthly.

All of the gradations are mapped on an annual calendar. The amount of information that they report to me is amazing. They keep a running record of which blog is most read, currently active, all time favorite, and so forth.

Stats show how people found my blog, where they went from this blog, and what are the most popular searches that bring people here. For instance many times people are doing a search for "warthog" and are led to read my blog on "More of God's Amazing Creatures." The warthog enthusiasts must be shy. They don't leave many comments.

I want you to relax. There's no tracking of WHO the viewers are. However, please let me know you stopped in by leaving a comment.

There are a lot of you who are stopping by for a moment of encouragement. I am so grateful that you do. You are always welcome.

You are in good company as well. As of October 10, 2008 you are one of 30,000 views. Thank you!

Writing is like one of my great loves, bicycling. Riding is drinking in the wonder of God's creation. Each blog is just a simple way to visit life together with a friend.

In our exploration we can see the blessing of God's hand in our daily routine. Whether life is full, complicated, or painful, my hope is to help you see hope. When hope is refreshed then we can determine to persevere. I have enjoyed that from friends and so I am compelled to share it with others.

Each day as I write, I contemplate this wonderful life that the Lord has given us to live. His blessings in our life are so wonderfully generous. Trusting Him is a pleasure.

As your eyes scan the words on this bloglog, know that your are in my prayers. If through a simple collection of words, you can smile, laugh, find comfort, feel that someone else understands, or realize that someone else has shared in your experiences, then maybe we can all find the strength to help someone else and keep cheering each other.

Thank you for the 30,000 views. It means a lot to me. I look forward to many more visits in the days to come.
