That is, if you happen to be a shopkeeper who seeks 'face-toface'-contact with customers or have employees for giving personal service.

Examples:
"Greetings. Welcome at SLCME headquarters. How may I help you?"
"Please remark that, if our products get utterly destroyed because of a malfunctioning prim, we will of course redeliver a fresh copy of the respective prim."

Quite some typing for business-conversation, you have to do multiple times, isn't it?

Due to this, a gadget, worn as a HUD that makes your avatar actually say whatever phrases you preset with a simple click, would defenitely save you some typing time.

Find it at The Hammerwielder Store Shop, on Second Life(tm) Exchange or on my onrez-site and take a look on a way to make serving customers a tad easier.

Available with 1GB or 2GB of internal storage, the Pulse has a microphone, camera, and special paper that allows it to make a digital record of your writing and associate it with the audio it captured at the time you were writing. Watch this for an example. It also features an OLED display, and has a growing developer community working on new ways to use the device — meaning it might become even more useful after you buy it.

Bags that charge your gadgets aren’t exactly a new concept, but that apparently hasn’t stopped Philips from trying to patent the idea, as evidenced by its recently-revealed application for a so-called “Smart Handbag.” This bag is somewhat unique, however, in that it has separate compartments for your various gizmos, each of which contain their own electric conductive circuit that’s used to top off the devices as needed (the bag itself is apparently charged simply by plugging the strap into a power outlet). As if that wasn’t enough, the other end of the strap would apparently be outfitted with a USB connector, which’d let you plug the bag into your computer and instantly have access to all the devices contained within it. Of course, that’s assuming computers still have USB ports whenever this thing actually makes it off the drawing board.

I was spending my Saturday evening looking through a local thrift shop for owl statues when I was overcome by a sudden technostalgia. I could not pull myself away from the abandoned and useless pieces of electronica past. One thing in particular demanded to be purchased. The ELECTRODEX PLUS.

This looks like it was Rolodex's answer to the computer age. You can flip through screen using a wheel on the side, just like how you might flip through your rolodex. It allows you to keep a business card file, letters to write, reminder notes --that's mine up above-- a morning review and a monthly calander.

The calendar isn't much good. The only date I am so far able to bring up on it is January 1989 and I doubt the Electrodex was Y-2K compatible. Also, some of the buttons are worn out. Like zero and A.

But I like the device. The wheels are fun to turn. I wish my computer had knobs and shit. It's interesting to see how Rolodex attempted to adapt their interface to computing. This weird mash-up between the office of the eighties and nineties gives it an unintentional Bladerunner aesthetic.

And it beeps. I like that.

A lot of tech enthusiasts are wondering whether they should get Eee PCs now or wait until something

A lot of tech enthusiasts are wondering whether they should get Eee PCs now or wait until something better comes out... or wait until the Eee's have a better processor, or wait until the price has come down. My wife has been waiting for ages for the next-generation iPhone to come out.

Technology is moving at such a rapid pace these days that it's hard to get that perfect deal we're looking for. By the time such-and-such becomes affordable or better spec'ed, another product has come on the horizon and displaced it.

Sure, occasionally, you can get or miss the good deal (like when my sister-in-law bought an iPod and two weeks later Apple lowered the price by US$100 and included more with it), but most of the time, you're chasing a ghost. If you need a gadget ("need" here being used loosely, as we don't really need any gadgets), get it. By the time it dies or appears obsolete to you, there'll be something else new and exciting around the corner.

I'll end with a comment from our TV repair guy. Five years ago, my wife and I bought a TV that was state-of-the-art at the time (and very expensive) that is now kind of bulky in comparison to the ship-shape models of today. When it broke, we decided to get it repaired instead of getting it replaced, and we asked the repair guy how long it would last. He said something along the lines of, "It'll last at least another five years. By then, we'll all be watching television beamed straight to our brains anyway." A bit of an exaggeration, of course, but there is truth in that statement.

You might have heard about this advance technology, but do you really know what Bluetooth exactly means and how it functions? It is a wireless technology or you can call it a short-range communication technology that lets you get rid of the use of wires. The most popular device that has incorporated this technology is the mobile phone.

The global acceptance of this technology has enabled users to connect one Bluetooth enabled device to the other. So, for example, if you have a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, you can transfer all your phone data to another Bluetooth enabled device in just few minutes. There is no need to connect devices through cables. Moreover, Bluetooth headsets are also available in the market and while using this device; you can receive call and talk wirelessly.

The Bluetooth range depends on the device class such as for class 3 radios, it has a range of up to 1 meter. However, for class 2 radios, which are mostly found in mobile phones, have a range of 10 meters. And for class 1 radios, basically in industrial use have a range of 100 meters. Moreover, the data transfer rate is 1 Mbps for version 1.2; and up to 3 Mbps for version 2.0+ EDR.

Technology has brought a new revolution in today’s modern world. Everyone is attached with technology in one-way or the other. Whether it’s your personal or professional world, you use new and advanced features. For example, gadgets like mobile phones, MP3 music player, and laptop – these are the best examples of what we call advanced technology.

If you talk about a mobile phone, there are so many features attached with it. Since, there is a tough competition in the mobile market, manufacturers are incorporating more and more advanced features in their handsets to lure consumers in the best possible way. The journey from a basic mobile phone to today’s most advanced third generation (3G) mobile phone is really commendable. Thanks to the technology and the people who have brought such a big revolution.

The incorporation of GPS (Global Positioning System), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, music and video player plus camera and high capacity memory card has changed the functionality of a mobile phone. Recent phones are equipped with office tools, which can be used to manage files in an easy and efficient way. One can also get connected with the Internet with a touch of the mobile button.

It is not only the mobile phone that has got these advanced features. For music lovers, sleek and beautiful MP3 players with up to 9 GB space are also available. Moreover, camera feature is really good in today’s mobile phones. Capture the world on the go

A Japananese Media artist has collaborated with Yamha to create a new digital instrument for the new era, The TENORI-ON, a 16x16 matrix of LED Swtiches, which mainly work as a step sequencer, creating a "visible Music" interface.

Video After The Break.

The TENORI-ON Functions like a synth and it has 6 modes:

Score Mode

Random Mode

Draw

Bounce Mode

Push Mode

Solo Mode

The Tenori-on operates in Layers and in blocks.

Layers

he TENORI-ON has a total of 16 layers. Separate notes and voices can be assigned to each layer, and all layers can be played together in synchronization.

Blocks

Once complete set of 16 layers is called a “block.”
The TENORI-ON can store up to 16 programmed blocks (16-layer groups) in memory, and you can switch from block to block instantly during performance.

Ultimately, that's something you have to decide for yourself.

It's limited, it's nice looking and you get to have CARS before anyone else (other than about 1,100 other people in this world) in a nice box ... can you logically argue for and against buying this set? Of course.

It's certainly not "cheap" by most measures at $300+ ... but it's not unheard of ... want the Sideshow Toys PREMIUM Indiana Jones figure? $280 clams + shipping.

Or the Aliens Power Loader (sold out) also from Sideshow Toys - $249

Plus $139 for the Alien ...

Or you don't have to go far, HWC has been selling this set with display case for $199 + shipping since last October ...

Of course, there are plenty of things you can buy outside of toys for $200-$300 ... how about a Louis Vutton hair band?

Is this also known as a scrunchie? This Louis Vuitton version is $335 BTW.

Of course, you can also spend money and not have a lot to show for it ...

Parking in a bus zone in SF? $250

"Fine for parking in a Bus Zone
Violators are subject to a fine of $250. Parking in a bus zone is a hazard to passengers attempting to board or exit a bus and may prevent disabled individuals from boarding."

The Digg story of the guy who spent $300 for an email address?

You can buy an HDMI cable for your TV - $374 ... oh sorry, $373.99.

Or 6 Your Love Makes My Heart Blossom figurines - only $50 each. They are so gosh darn cute!

If this global warming thing is true - time to step up and motorize your cooler for double duty ... now in electric versions! Your teenage kids will love a ride in this to school. A little spendier at $399 plus $100 for the cooler trailer.

Are you like most people who think - this is the 21st century - why am I living like a barbarian of the neolithic age and still have to pour my own cereal? Yes, civilization has finally advanced ... finally, battery powered cereal dispensing ... and as they note, " it looks great too!"

WAIT, there's more! "Because the unit is automatic, there are no dials or cranks to be twisted or to crush the cereal. Just press a bowl against the dispensing mechanism and
out comes the cereal."

FINALLY! Yea, the last unit I got, the squirrel fell down into the crank and I not only got crushed cereal but crushed squirrel flakes.

So, my friends - spend your money wisely or poorly ...

This weekend, my new dual monitor set up has proven its worth. I have spent most of the day doing the final edit on the new literary magazine for the middle school. Can we say "tedious"? Clearly, we need to teach those students how to punctuate dialog.... and spell. At any rate, it was awesome to be able to use the bigger monitor and see several pages at one time. I will give it one final read in the morning, then it is off to the publisher. It is so cool that we can simply upload the files to the publisher and have our magazine, glossy covers and all, in a little over a week.

As a treat for all my persnickety work, I spent some time looking photos from the Ottobre group on Flickr. What a treat to be able to see them in such great resolution. Wow. I am truly spoiled and never want to go back to a normal monitor again.

the place i used to live was pretty cool (temperature-wise) and our bananas stayed nice and yellowish green (just the way i like them) for days. i really don't like to eat bananas after they've gotten pretty ripe and have brown spots. after that happens i usually just chop them up and put them in the freezer and eat frozen bananas.

now i've moved to a pretty hot area, and our bananas turn super ripe overnight! and even if we put them carefully on the counter, they get bruised where they touch the surface.. i think the temperature might affect that, also. hopefully this cute banana split holder ($12.99 from bed bath and beyond) will keep our bananas bruise free and fresher for longer. the holder also folds flat for compact storage.

 					Revealed just yesterday,
the Intel Atom-powered Asus Eee PC 901 is expected to be launched at
Computex on June 3rd, on the same day MSI is set to release its Wind
low-cost notebooks. Featuring a little bit of bling courtesy of some
metal inserts and Bluetooth support, but basically the same hardware
specs (Atom excluded), the Eee PC 901 is said to retail at about $650
or $649 in its Windows XP version. The 901’s cost is $100 higher than
that of the Celeron M-boasting Eee PC 900 so the “low-cost”
characteristic is already dead and gone. Hopefully the Eee PC 901 with
Linux pre-installed will be cheaper.

A company by the name of Sonix7 revealed recently some MP3 players which look a lot like iPods. They are called, appropriately enough, the Nano Pro and Touch Pro and you'll find them available for shipment from the UK starting at 39.99 or 69.99 respectively.

The Sonix7 Nano Pro looks pretty similar to the iPod nano. It sports a 1.8-inch color display. Audio listening options include built-in speakers or a headphone jack for more private listening. Up to 8GB of memory can be included with this player, allowing for storage of up to 2,000 songs, 3,500 digital photos or eight hours of video.

The Touch Pro, meanwhile, is a copycat of the iPod touch. It features a 2.8-inch touchscreen display which lets you control almost all of this player's features. Features it has include 4GB of memory (expandable by 2GB), FM radio, support for a variety of media formats, voice recording and a built-in digital camera.

Guide Rating -

Works With
3rd-5th Generation iPod
1st-2nd Generation iPod nano
1st Generation iPod Shuffle
iPod Mini

The Good
Strong FM broadcast
Charges iPod during use
Feels safer than mounted car adapters

The Bad
Sound is a bit washed out
Minor radio interference

The Price
US$59.99

The DLO TransDock micro is a car kit for the iPod that allows you to broadcast music from your iPod directly to your car stereo over a FM signal. It is a predecessor to the TransDock Deluxe.

The TransDock micro has some of the same limitations of the Deluxe, but many strengths as well.

To install the car kit, you simply plug the TransDock micro into your cigarette lighter and then plug the attached cable into your iPod’s dock connector. You then turn on your car radio and turn it to the station the TransDock is tuned to (often 88.5 FM) and start playing the iPod.

Music generally broadcasts well, though crowded radio space will occasionally cause interference between radio stations and your iPod. The TransDock micro’s broadcast, however, sounds washed out, degraded. Though this wasn’t true of the TransDock Deluxe, whose broadcasts sounded very good when there was no interference, the micro sounds just a little bit worse than a cassette adapter connecting the iPod and car stereo.

Despite that, the TransDock micro has a number of nice additional features. For instance, it charges the iPod during use, can work with other audio players through its AUX jack, and offer up to four presets for stations that it broadcasts on.

An especially nice touch is the cable that connects to the TransDock. Not only does it work in the car, it also detaches and can be used to charge and sync the iPod with computers via USB.

One thing that I noticed about the TransDock mico, and liked a lot, was that it felt safer than other car kits that require mounting the iPod. With those kits, using the iPod requires looking down, away from the road. Since the micro attaches to the iPod with a long cable, you can use the iPod while holding it up at eye level, minimizing looking away from driving. That may seem like a small thing, but it feels safer to me, which I appreciate.

So, while the TransDock micro has a few drawbacks, it’s a safe, solid offering for those looking to take their iPods in the car.

You can zoom in on any web page in the iPhone’s Safari browser just with a couple of simple finger motions. Here are two ways to zoom in using Safari.

Double Tap
In Safari, if you want to zoom in on a particular section of a web page, simple double tap it with your finger. This will enlarge that section of the page. The same double tap will zoom out again.

Multitouch
If you want more control over what you’re zooming in on or how much zooming you do, use the multitouch feature.

To use this, put your index finger together with your thumb and place them on the part of the iPhone’s screen that you want to zoom in on. Then, drag your fingers apart, sending each one towards the opposite edge of the screen. This will zoom in on page. The text and images will appear blurry for a moment and then the iPhone will make them crisp and clear again.

To zoom out of the page, put your fingers at opposite ends of the screen and drag them towards each other, meeting in the center of the screen.

Responding to customer concerns about unusually large iPhone bills for U.S. customers traveling overseas and not being covered by their domestic unlimited data plan, AT&T has introduced its Data Global Plan, which allows iPhone users to pay a lower monthly fee for international data use.

U.S. customers taking their iPhones overseas and using email or web features were previously paying for each KB of data they sent or receieved (something that quickly added up to thousands of dollars) when they were in so-called data roaming mode.

The Data Global Plan offers the following features and prices:

Plan

20MB

50MB

Montly Price

US$25

NOTE: Multiple readers report that AT&T is requiring a 12-month contract for these plans, which includes an early cancellation fee.

These plans are available in 29 countries, including:

Canada
China
Mexico
and many parts of Europe and Asia.

If you’re planning a trip overseas that includes your iPhone, try AT&T’s Wireless Travel Guide to see whether a Data Global Plan will cover your phone and save you from sticker shock when you get your first wireless bill after getting home.
