The U.S. has such a raw deal and it pisses me off. WHICH country donates millions of dollars to international disasters? Which country did Europe run crying to during WWII (Nothing against Europe here)? Which country took part in a convoy to aid the population of an enemy? And at the same time, which country has a reputation for being stupid? Which country is considered the most materialistic and shallow? Do they even do research? Many of us are smart, okay? Fuck.

They say we stick our noses where they don't belong. But once we say we have no part in this matter, we're criticized for "not caring about the rest of the world" and immediately classified as a selfish nation, or a cowardly nation.

Yes, I know. It's not your typical game material. It's what you might call an "art game", though it's also a fun tactical strategy game.

As you might imagine with a game like this, the symbols, colors and objects that I'm using in the final piece are important. The two sides of this game mark the heritage of my family and my husband's family (he's a "redman" in the Caribbean, the descendant of both African and Irish slaves). Because this game is non-digital, I'm forced to consider all kinds of things in a different way than I normally would have considered them.

I spent about 2 months looking for just the right bits. Over the last two weeks, I've fought with various colors of green to get just the right tint, and just the right amount of stain onto the pieces. I have a small army of green guys in varying shades that will come in tremendously handy when I make a game about... an explosion in a green paint plant, I suppose (and I am kidding about that). This week, I've hunted every store in the area for an orange that wasn't florescent or horrifying. It had to be just right.

Tactile considerations were today's big hit. How to the pieces feel? How much do they weigh? Do they look all right next to the other pieces? What do they represent? Cromwell's invading forces, pictured drying in my backyard below, are purposefully abstracted and impersonal (read more about the Plantation if you want to know why; they rarely lived on the land, and instead mostly rented it back to the Irish they took it from).

Video game designers have similar considerations. If you've ever attempted a move in a game that felt phenomenally awkward, you know what I mean. While tactile considerations are something I've worked with for a long time, this is the most up-close-and-personal the decisions have ever been. In saying this, I am not referring to the subject matter, either. Usually, there's a whole team involved, and the feel is as much the programmer and artist as it is me. If any one of us is off when the punch lands in a video game, you'll know in a second.

I wish you - yes, you - would try something like this: a full non-digital game from concept to camera-ready. It's been a great experience, and made me think of some video game design stuff that I would typically not think nearly so much about.

i think they are gonna attack her lack of experience.. but actually she has run more stuff than barack and ran the stsate of alaska and has 80-90% approval ratings as the govenor ... they prob will attack her as being in with the big oil crowd.. but you know what... why is that bad?  the alaskan pipeline.. the existing one that has been there for 30+ years and minimal issues ... and there has not been the impact to the animals or environment that they claim.. and our technology is so much better now...

maybe i am a bit biased cause i worked for an oil company for a year.. am i in the pocket of big oil cause of that?  maybe.. maybe not... just practical.

i want the magic hydrogen car that flies and emits rainbows and orgasms ... uh not on you.. but make you have them... but we were told that flying car technology was going to be in the 90s and we still have huge land locked cars.... so not sure how much stock to put into the alternative energies plans.

i will take the democrats seriously on alternative enrgies when they fly on commercial flights to their home states and take buses and rail to work and not in sup'd up tahoes and suburbans and fly to engagement after engagement talking about global warming .. wait that is not the word... global climate change... whilst using more energy than all of ususe in a year in probably a week in all of their mansions and private flights.

i will take republicans seriously on oil use when they actually stop spending money on stuff we didnt ask for and actually spend money for the troops and not putting us in a deficit and return to true conservative principles that led us to being a super power in the world and the US that we all want to return to...

This time, this trip to the United States has not been beneficial. There are too much handships to go around. Everyone is hurting and the immediate future is bleak.

When I returned to Florida eleven months ago, I had intended to work for six to 9 months, save some money and returned to the Caribbean.

However, the economic scene had changed in my fourteen months away, and the  timing was wrong.

To friends who helped, I thank you all!

To those close to me, who were less than helpful, I understand you better now, and will remember you as well.

Having cleared the Transportation Security Administration check points after a three hours girl-watching session, I'm now waiting to board my home-bound flight.

Then I'll  be back in a familiar but now violent society, and a new chapter will unfold. What will be, will be.

Hoy acabe todas mis responsabilidades escolares y tengo el fin de semana libre, esta vez mi tema solo será sobre el amor. Cada persona lo ve de distinta manera, depende como lo haya sentido, experimentado, vivido, o quizás saboreado, el amor es algo muy grande que cabe en lugares muy chicos, es un sentimiento que se experimenta por las cosas, por las personas, por los lugares, incluso por detalles insólitos, ya que como cada persona es un mundo, siempre va a haber diferentes formas de pensar.

A mi criterio el amor es un sentimiento muy fuerte que recrea los lazos afectivos y los aumenta, puede ser muy favorable para la persona ya que químicamente desarrolla sustancias que crean un estado de relajación y alegría, aunque no solo se da por un amor entre dos personas. Yo considero que una de las verdades de la vida, es el amor, ya que a pesar de ser algo intangible nos acompaña toda la vida, en todos sus matices, los cuales pueden ser los sentimientos o la forma de ser afectivo. Siempre nos hace falta la compañía, incluso quienes conocen todo pueden encontrar siempre algo nuevo si miran mas allá de lo que se puede ver. Ya sea amor, odio, desamor, pena, soledad, tristeza, o cualquier forma de sentir que exista, lo importante siempre será que se diga lo que se siente, aunque se preocupen los demás o aunque tengas miedo a que las cosas no resulten como quieras, la vida esta llena de aventuras como de sorpresas.

Hoy estaré ermitaño, quiero darme amor a mi mismo, y no se malinterprete, solo quiero darme tiempo y dedicación, hay mucho que leer y mucho por hacer, además pronto se vienen los exámenes de mi otro idioma, los esperare con gusto. Por cierto, todos los días tenemos oportunidades para cambiar lo que no nos gusta, o para aceptarnos, o para hacer lo que nos cause mas alegría, no digo que se deba vivir feliz siempre, no hay que ser hedonista, a menos que tengas pensado aceptar las consecuencias, simplemente, hay que compartir lo que uno tiene a los demás y ser como nos sintamos mas a gusto.

All being well, that means the new series of The Sound of Sunday will be on the air every Sunday from 7 September live from 1.30pm.

There'll be the return of all the SOS regulars plus some more specials during the series.  Blue Peter is celebrating a very special anniversary in October and we'll be telling the story of the world's longest running Children's TV show. 

Our annual Christmas extravaganza will be on the air in December and we are working on getting some more special guests for that and several other shows over the next few months.

I like sewing because it gives me a creative outlet...and something else to think about other than the mundane things of life.  I can look at what I made and be proud of it...even if it is silly.  I haven't had much drive to sew in a while though...since I was about 4m preg with Podling.  Long story, check the archives!  LOL  But, I think I am ready to start trying again.

Los vencejos son maravillas del diseño aerodinámico. Las alas en forma de media luna se curvan hacia atrás para eliminar gran parte de la resistencia que enlentece a la mayoría de las aves. Durante el vuelo aceleran con aleteos rápidos y planean intermitentemente.

Su extraordinaria maniobrabilidad se debe en parte a su capacidad de mover un ala más rápido que la otra. Esta diferencia en el aleteo les permite cambiar de dirección súbitamente sin reducir la velocidad. De esta manera adquieren gran rapidez cuando giran en el cielo, alcanzan a los insectos voladores y los recogen con la boca abierta. Well, it is that time again. We are about to deploy an update to our flagship product Planning Center Online and we are so excited to get this update to you. We have been really busy and already have some great plans for the next version of Planning Center which should be out after the 1st of the year.

Text Messaging

We have been asked several times for a way to do text-messaging and there just didn't seem to be a good way to reliably text-message users for awhile. E-mail to sms providers are free but are not reliable and most pay-gateways are too expensive, especially with the amount of text-messages we will be sending out. But a couple of months ago we found the service called TextMarks.com and I mentioned this service to our customers in the forum and the response was very positive.

New "Schedule" View

Another requested feature was a Schedule view for people to see everything that you are scheduled for. This new screen will show all plans you have been scheduled for, any upcoming times you are scheduled for & will include the "My Calendar" in the sidebar. Also all scheduled viewers will be directed to this page by default.

Volunteer Video Tutorial

We have added a new Volunteer Video tutorial to help your volunteers understand the aspects of Planning Center Online that they have access to. This video tutorial is very quick and simple. It can also be downloaded and burned to a DVD if you wish to show it to your volunteers on a projector. We will update this post with a link to the video once it is released.

Trying to stay copyright compliant while also making sure your teams are well rehearsed is a huge obstacle nowadays. To help provide you with a solution to this obstacle we have made it very simple to link to MP3s on Amazon's MP3 store, so your users can download them legally. Click the new "link to AmazonMP3" button in a Song Arrangement Attachment box, and Planning Center will look up your song in Amazon's store for you to add the link to your song arrangement with one click.

New Custom Properties Editor

With Planning Center getting used by more and more ministries in a church we have some churches with more than 50 property options which was making it impossible to manage. So we worked really hard to create a new interface that will show you what properties someone has and easily add new properties to a person. We are really happy with this new interface and we hope you are too.

Anyways, thank God that there's no community service tomorrow, because I have a huge camping trip to a attend and it should be a blast. Senior year, despite what many told me, is already hard. And the retarded part is the colleges won't see those grades til they've rejected me. And I gotta look for a new job. And someone isn't happy at all. And I gotta get started on college apps! Should be a cinch though. Already brainstorming =D

And I'm starting on a major project regarding piano: Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. I hate it already. My teacher warned me that whatever piano arrangements out there are bound to be advanced, even the easiest ones.

But DAMN! Behold the VERY VERY first measure.

The mortals among us who do not know piano will have no idea what any of this is. They'll not know either, for that matter, what all the fuss is about.

But others among us, only in high school, can look at this and totally sympathize with me. Thanks guys.

It's gonna be soo hard I just know it. WTH does that "tr" followed by the horizontal wavy line mean? How can anyone put a bird's eye above a rest? What the hell is this madness?  But... I did choose this piece particularly (WHAT!? 0_0) so it's totally my bad if I pull an epic phail... even if I think that learning this will be totally worth it.

My mom & sister were going to be out of town for the weekend and while I love them, I had already spent the past weekend with them and felt we needed a break from time together anyway.  My good friends M & S were going to be out of town for the weekend at a steam engine event that they do annually.  Many of my other friends, I honestly feel like this past week has burdened all of them with my stuff enough (T, B, & D).  I don't know exactly what it is that I believe will come of this weekend, but I know that there's something that I need.  And, I felt that this, whatever it was, needed to be about and for me, separate from D.  He'll be missed, thought of regularly, and still communicated with...  but I needed this to be just me.

So, I'm flying to Florida, to spend the weekend with Aunt B.  I haven't seen my Aunt B. since fall 2007.  We used to talk every day or every other day.  She & my mom have always been trusted friends of mine as an adult.  I'm feeling such great anticipation about seeing her!  This is by far one of the most spontaneous of my actions but that, too, is an area that I'm working on.  Part of my struggle with anxiety, as much as I don't care to admit it, is likely a struggle with needing to feel a sense of control over what happens in my life.  I want plans.  I want to know what to expect.  I want an itinerary.  I want a map.  Many conversations lately have focused on this.  I want to be less structured than I am, less scared to just to experience life, to see what happens, to let go and live.  In my head I know that I can't know what to expect, that I can't control something falling out of the sky, that I can't do anything to make sure nothing terrible, horrible, or awful will happen to me or those I care about...  but my anxiety tends to tell me I need to do everything in my power to keep the horrible, awful, and terrible away and if I can't do anything about it, to worry about it.  I hate worrying.  I hate the way it makes me feel.  I hate that it's wasted energy.  I hate that it invades my relationships and friendships and instead of just being able to be there and enjoy where we are, it provokes questions that don't need to be asked and certainly don't need to be answered because I *already* know the answer!  All I can say at this point is that I'm working on it.  I've had various points in my life where my anxiety hit a spike and I've just had to work through it...  I'm probably at the peak of one of those spikes and I'm doing everything I can to try to manage it.  

This trip to see Aunt B. has given me the opportunity to ride our Light Rail for the second and third times.  I left work and took the light rail to the Mall of America to pick something up quick and then back to the airport where I've had a nice dinner and found myself a comfy (ok, not exactly) corner to relax and wait for my flight.  I was stopped by security :)  I had forgotten to empty the water from my water bottle (BAD!!) and I actually had a few liquids in my suitcase that I didn't realize I had (lotion, a mini perfume thing, and some makeup).  Thankfully, he didn't take my stuff... just gave me a ziploc for all of it and said, "Have a great day!"  I've got 180 random songs to explore on D's itty bitty iPod shuffle so the variety is keeping me well entertained!  He told me it would be random...  he was *not* kidding!!

About one hour 'til flight time.  I'll post over the weekend of Aunt B. & my time together.  I'm so looking forward to seeing her (and the rest of your family too Uncle S. and cousins S & C--not leaving you out!)

Turns out also that after just starting this blog D has gifted me a mobile me account so once I learn, I will be movin' stuff over there...  I'll post the new address when that happens.

We are only a month away from hockey - and I ran into a couple of the Red Wing players at the mall today. They're starting to come back.

John McCain picked a conservative woman for his VP. I could not be happier with his choice. She reflects my political viewpoints perfectly. And I'm just proud - yes, for the first time in years, I'm really proud to be a conservative Republican. I still dislike that crabby old toad (McCain), but was going to vote for him anyway because he's prolife and Obama is pro-infanticide. I am a LOT more comfortable casting my vote for McCain, and I will put a sticker on my car now. As a female common sense conservative, I am perfectly happy - ecstatic even. 

W/regards to the people talking about her on the boards. She is socially AND fiscally conservative, but if you look at her life story, that does not mean she's a barefoot stay at home housewife by party decree. She is exactly what a LOT of conservative women, like myself, want to be.  She's standing up for her roots and living the American dream as a working and successful woman.

And I hope that people take a long look at her beautiful baby. Barak Obama was involved with blocking legislation that was meant to protect babies like that.

And - College football starts tomorrow!!!! My team, U-M, has a new coach and pretty much a rookie squad (both players and coaches) that they will send out against Utah. All fingers crossed, I hope that the guys' hearts are in the right place and they are ready. I was talking to my brother in law about it and we were both halfway between excitement and fear over an article we read in the local paper. Keep in mind that U-M fans expect our team to win every single game. That is why Lloyd Carr was booted - he favored a boring style of play and his teams had been dropping 2-3 games every year the last five years. 8-4 is unacceptable, but there are people saying that is the best we can hope for this year.

8-4? PLEASE GOD NO!

As I told my BIL, there aren't any games that I, as a wolverines fan, would be fine about dropping. It would be HUMILIATING if they drop blah games, like tomorrow's contest against Utah (speaking of which, they better not underestimate Utah, as they are actually a good team, and have more experience than our team has). So they have to beat all of the weaker or loser teams.

On the other hand, I really would be sick if they lost ANY games to MSU, OSU, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn State... you get my drift?

Personally speaking - I would be depressed. Knowing how the other fans are, they would be calling for Rodriguez' head on a platter if we don't defeat ANY of our major rivals.

Well, ok. They may lose to Illinois. I suppose. Same thing with Purdue and Wisconsin (I speak through gritted teeth here), as I feel less 'rage' about those colleges.

Then again - as I told my BIL. If they lose every other game but defeat OSU, it would be a doubly sweet victory. Doubtless OSU will get a good start (even though they also lost a few good players to the draft and they've been wobbly the last couple years). If it comes down to a last game and they are trying to get into the national championship, and they are defeated by a gutterfied U-M team. Hahah. That would be a feather in our pathetic little caps.

Los tres convivirán bajo el mismo techo y surgirá una tensión sexual. La primera que se llevará el gato al agua será Blanca, pero Irene no pierde la esperanza: “Conectamos bien, aunque de primeras no le gusto demasiado”.

En cualquier caso, la modelo y actriz se encuentra a gusto con su compañero argentino: “Entre nosotros hay muchísima química”.

Dos triángulos amorosos más

Pero ellos no serán los únicos profesores con líos. Olimpia (Ana Milán) seguirá adelante con su embarazo sin saber si el padre es Félix (Xavi Mira), de quien se separará, o Roque (Bart Santana).

El trío más sorprendente lo protagonizan los tres alumnos más rebeldes. Ruth (Úrsula Corberó) aprenderá a quererse a sí misma y buscará el cariño que no le da Gorka (Adam Jezierski) en Cabano (Maxi Iglesias).

Este último, al haber solucionado sus problemas familiares, le abrirá su corazón a Ruth, pero no será capaz de confesarle a su mejor amigo que le está quitando a la novia.

La historia de amor de Cabano dejará vía libre a la relación entre Paula (Angy) y Jan (Andrés Cheung).

Isaac buscará consuelo de nuevo en Yoli

Más conflictos tendrá Isaac (Karim El-Karem): como su relación con Irene se va deteriorando, volverá a buscar consuelo en brazos de Yoli (Andrea Duro). Y Julio (Gonzalo Ramos), Cova (Leonor Martín) y Fer (Javier Calvo) seguirán con su especial amistad.
