Some physicians misunderstand the real intentions of the new JCAHO "disruptive physician" standards. These physicians incorrectly perceive the new standards as anti-physician rather pro-physician and pro-patient, designed to improve patient care, staff morale and reduce medical errors, legal liability and the creation of hostile work environments.

Defense Attorneys have quickly realized that is in the best interest of their "disruptive physician" clients to embrace, rather than legally challenge, referrals to Executive Coaching/Anger Management programs. These programs are positive interventions designed to address these issues.

In recent weeks, Anderson & Anderson has seen a dramatic increase in the number of physician referrals to its Executive Coaching/Anger Management Program for "disruptive physicians". This is consistent with the experience of the two major programs for "disruptive physicians".

Last night, I met my friend Darrell for dinner.  He had run a half-marathon in San Jose over the weekend and I was curious to hear how that went for him.  He's running the Chicago marathon this upcoming weekend, so the San Jose race was just a quick little blip of a training run for him.  Anyway, Darrell had some more mail for me, and I wanted to return his laptop since the mine is up and running again. He even offered to buy, and suggested this Chinese food restaurant on Sunset Boulevard called Chin Chin.  I passed Chin Chin multiple times every day when I lived at Darrell's house in August because it was at the bottom of THE HILL where Sunset Plaza Drive intersects with Sunset Boulevard.

It was a good dinner. We caught up on my job hunt, politics (mostly SNL’s recent political satires), and life in LA now that I’m biking my ass all over East BF and back. At the end of the meal, as usual, the fortune cookies came. My fortune read: “For success today, look first to yourself.” Hmmm.

I've actually been thinking about this a lot lately.  Coincidence?  Hmmm.  Is there such a thing?  I'm not so sure anymore.  In recent days (and perhaps this began during the Dark Period), I've been feeling as though I'm watching other people live their lives – everyone from my cousin to the people on the subway to the people walking down Santa Monica Boulevard to the people I see at the library, the coffee store, the pharmacy... wherever.  Anyway, it feels as though I'm an observer of everyone else's lives, and I've stopped participating in my own.  I'm not sad or anything, this was just an insight that came to me.  With all the bike riding, job hunting, contact making... I'm feeling a disconnect from my own life, if that makes any sense.  That needs to change.  And while I'm a believer we must trust our intuition, reality makes that next to impossible sometimes – or so it seems.  At times I get so many ideas swirling around upstairs that it puts me into a lockdown where I don't move forward on anything.  Needless to say, that doesn't get me anywhere.

In the afternoon I called Tori to see if she wanted to grab coffee.  She couldn't because she was hosting a talent audition at her audio studio, but said to come over and hang for a while anyway, so there I went.  I had a great time watching the flow of voice actors coming and going and feeling the energy – it was an excitement about their craft that was palpable. To some extent, this kind of enthusiasm about the process (auditioning) and not always the end result (the booking) is something I've lost sight of, I think.  I tried to absorb as much of that energy as possible to use for my ongoing journey.

After everyone left, Tori and I ended up talking about what I'd been feeling in recent days.  I feel blessed she is willing to share her intuitive insights with me.  Her sense was that I needed to be reminded of who I really am – what I want to do and why.  She also reminded me that anything can happen so long as I'm ready to allow it to happen, and even if I think I'm ready, there could still be a part of me deep down that is still resistant.  If I'm feeling a disconnect from my own life and purpose – examining everyone else's life and not my own – it makes sense that those deeper, as yet unobserved, and perhaps resistant pieces of my inner being are being overlooked.  Hmm.  "For success today, look first to yourself."  Food for thought.

Unfortunately I had to dash out of Tori's sooner than I would have liked because it was Minnesota bowling night in Koreatown.  More on that tomorrow...

The Pursuit of Happyness is inspired by a true story, starring Will Smith. Its a fantastic movie about the struggle of a human being, for achieving his share of happiness.

Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a talented salesman, his earning not enough to give him a complete living. His family consists of his 5 year old son and his wife (who leaves him unable to cope up with the living condition). Then Gardner has to struggle for a good job, a shelter, and the instruments of law of government of America to achieve his dream alongwith maintaining his son's well being.

The movie demonstrate the struggle and emotional content of a human being when faced with the challenge of basic needs. Of course at some part the movie goes too slow, but otherwise the action of Will Smith and the role of his son were really appreciative. It gets a fabulous rating of 8 owing to the good action and the story of this film, which gives us lesson to go achieve the dream at any worse condition.

Instead of complaining about the sexualization of the Veep candidate, media outlets complain about the image being "too real", such as "But it's not the content of the story that is the problem. It is the deliberate attempt to show a very beautiful woman in a bad light.

It is not the first time good looks are "supposedly" shaping a Presidential election. When Warren Harding won in 1920, rumors had it that women voted for his because he was handsome. This is unprovable and presumably a reaction to that election being the first time that women could vote for President.

On PBS' To the Contrary two weeks ago they noted that men rather than women are the majority of Palin's supporters. Are we surprised that there could be a link between their support and their fantasies?

Anyone know how often tv shows and movies take the brunette, put glasses on her, tied her hair up and make her the librarian or some other intelligent but "mousy" worker. Then, presto, the hair comes down and she is a raving beauty.

Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant again, it has been claimed.

The 17-year-old star, who gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann in June, was reportedly shocked to discover she is expecting her second child and has been trying to keep it a secret.

A source told National Enquirer magazine: "Jamie Lynn is about eight weeks pregnant, and she and her mom Lynne are hysterical."

"Neither of them knows what to do, but for now they're trying to keep the news from getting out."

"Jamie Lynn believed she couldn't get pregnant while she was breastfeeding."

She'd expected to have her period by early September, but a home pregnancy test came back positive and Jamie Lynn cried her eyes out.

Iranian Actress Golshifteh Farahani, daughter of the famous actor and theatre director, Behzad Farahani, is in Ridley Scott's latest movie Body of Lies which has been released October10th. The movie is based on a novel by David Ignatius and is about a former journalist injured in the Iraq war who is hired by the CIA to track down an Al Qaeda leader in Jordan. Golshifteh will be playing, along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, in this movie as a nurse.
Santoori and Mim Mesleh Madar are two of Golshifteh's well-known movies that came out recently.

Hollywood starlet Anne Hathaway is set to star in Tim Burton's movie adaptation of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," entertainment industry press reported Tuesday.
 
Hathaway, who is generating early awards season buzz for her performance in "Rachel Getting Married," is to play the White Queen in Burton's retelling of the classic children's fantasy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Burton movie regulars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter already have signed on for the Disney project, with "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Depp to play the Mad Hatter. Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is to play Alice. Hathaway, whose other film credits include "Get Smart" and "The Devil Wears Prada", will next be seen in horror thriller, "Passengers."

After two months, I figured it was probably time to get my California driver's license, so today was my visit to the DMV.  Total dread, right?  Who loves going to the DMV?   No one I know.  However, they have it down to a sweet system here – you can go online and make an appointment, which means: no waiting in line.  VERY nice!  So I walked in and sauntered right past the line of unhappy people who didn't make appointments, enduring the sneers of the masses who decided to brave the odds and simply show up.

They also have a voter registration form attached to the driver's license application.  Not sure this is exclusive to California, but even so, it was nice to kill two birds with one stone.  AND I registered to have my ballot automatically mailed to me, so I never have to set foot in one of those bourgeois voting booths.  Lord only knows what kind of residue all these California liberals and closet Republicans leave behind!

After verification of my identity, I paid my $28, and then it was time for my picture.  UGH.  Generally speaking, I haaate having my picture taken.  And today, the circumstances were unflattering all-around.  My hair was all matted and askew from the bike helmet.  I had circles under my eyes and there was nary a make-up artist in sight - come on!  I thought this was Hollywood y'all!  Plus, the lighting was harsh AND on the bus ride into Hollywood, I realized I had forgotten to exfoliate my lips this morning. Unthinkable!  See, I learned this little tip from a former Miss Missouri years ago during rehearsals for a show we were both in.  When you're finished brushing your pearly whites (or in Hollywood - your veneers), you run the toothbrush over your lips and voila!  Smooth, luscious, plump lippage that would make you bitch-slap Angelina Jolie for her inferior pucker.  Odd?  Perhaps... but I get lots of compliments on my kisser..... which, when I hear how that sounds... doesn't sound so good...

My picture was taken anyway, despite my haggard appearance.  Imagine my relief that my image actually showed up on film (or in pixels, in this case.)   Charming fellow that I am, I smiled and asked the photographer if I looked fantastic in it.  Her half-hearted shrug did not instill much confidence.  It kindof said to me "Eh.  I've seen better."  Nice.

The written test was a BE-YOTCH!   Perhaps I was putting a little too much pressure on myself to score in the 99th percentile, but you're only allowed 6 wrong answers out of 36 questions.   I hadn't even seen, much less studied, the California Driver's Handbook.   There are several sample tests I took online that were easy-squeazy, so I thought, “Ah, piece of cake.”  Well... if the online test were written for the “For Dummies” subset, then the actual test must've been for MENSA initiates.  Damn.  Anything I didn't know or couldn't easily deduce I left blank, and at the end there were about 10 blanks.  I made what I thought were logical selections on most of these, and the remainder were guesses to questions like:  what is the blood-alcohol level California considers over the legal limit?  What is the largest allowable circumference allowed for a child in a safety seat?  How did the universe begin?  What are the Physical Consequences of Perelman's Proof of Thurston's Geometrization Theorem, and can profound theoretical advances in understanding three dimensions be applied to construct and manipulate structures across scales to fabricate novel materials?  WTF, people?!

During the test, the lady next to me was caught cheating and unforgivingly escorted out.  They snatched her test from her hands and ripped it up.   No mercy!  The DMV officials were relatively nice at first, but when little Miss Sassy Talk-Back became belligerent, they weren't havin' none of it.  “Ma'am, you cheated.  Go away.  Don't say anything else.  Leave now.”  Hard-core.

After this, I reached a Zen-like state where I decided if I failed the test, life would go on.  I'd have to come back another day and take it, and that wasn't the worst thing in the world.  I turned it in to the room supervisor and while she graded my answers, jokingly said to her, "You know, this test is WAY harder than the sample online tests are."  Her response:  "Oh yeah, trust the book.  I don't trust those online tests at all."  Wow... how thoughtful for them to provide this essentially useless service.

Thankfully, I answered only one question wrong.  Go figure!  I left with a brand new, if temporary, California driver's license and am now a registered voter.  Bring on the election!

Her skin has become a record of family and future: tattoos mark the latitude and longitude of her children's birth places; scars & stretchmarks speak of pregnancy and birth. For such a renowned beauty, it's a welcome escape from the vanity of Hollywood.

It's this evolved eye that found her fulsome face in the viewfinder. With a decisive click, Pitt captured a butterfly in the net that so many transitory moments escape. Photography has long been a passion of Pitts, along with architecture. Pitt is clearly interested in shape, form, structure -- this comes through in the spectacular photo which graces the cover of the forthcoming issue of W. Jolie's pillow lips look comfy, at home in this scene of domestic bliss.  Angelina looks to be wearing a classic cotton nightgown, a "Laura Ingall's nightie" in cotton as soft as grannie bed linens. The black and white portrait has a dreamy quality and a purity that is due, no doubt, to the privacy of the moment. 

For his birthday, Jolie presented Pitt with a Littman 45. Lucky man. He's also fortunate to have such a stunning face as a subject. It is Pitt's first time shooting a cover. In W's July 2005 issue, Pitt collaborated with Steven Klein to create a series of photos that cast him and Jolie as a married couple in the cozy turbulence of the 1960's .

In Filmmaker magazine's filmmaker blog, Scott Macaulay described the evocative cinematic experience of the Klein-Pitt project:

In a world where so many movies just don't deliver, sometimes you have to find cinematic pleasures elsewhere -- in music, in a videogame, or in a fashion magazine. And while I wouldn't have thought to compare the pages to "a small independent film" ("It wasn't a photography shoot. It wasn't a celebrity shoot," Klein said. "We looked at it like a small, independent film, an investigation into the breakdown of a family."), I did find in this spread the artful compositions, sneaking subtext, and yes, celebrity star power of good cinema. If you haven't seen it, the portfolio, which Pitt co-edited with Klein, features the stars as an all-American couple with family circa 1963 living alienated lives in a cold-war neo-paradise. Having recently watched Antonioni's L'Eclisse, I thought back on that film's fractured couplings in an H-bomb-fearing age as I turned the pages of this strange new form of celebrity portraiture. No disrespect to Doug Liman, but, in fact, Klein's Wspread is more arrestingly cinematic than anything in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Not everyone loved the 58-page spread. Newly dumped Jennifer Aniston found it hurtful and in poor taste. Of Pitt's horrendous timing, Aniston told Vanity Fair,  

"There's a sensitivity chip that’s missing."

I bought that issue of W but, unlike Macaulay, I was never able to savor the spread. It was just too sad. I'm not a big Jen-fan but damn that had to hurt. If strangers were thinking of Aniston's feelings, it must've crossed Pitt's mind. Or should have. For Pitt, Angelina and art came before Aniston's heartbreak. But the hurt is old and time has told. This issue of W should be less guilt-inducing and thus more enjoyable.
