Yesterday The Kid was playing happily outside in the garden, and suddenly all hell broke loose. He started screaming his face off. At first, I just ignored him, and carried on with my cigarette, because, well, he performs all the time you know. And then The Boyfriend's Best Friend (The Kid's Godfather) suggested that maybe something bit The Kid, and I should check his body for bites or stings.

Yup. I'd ignored my son's cries while he got stung by a bee. Aren't I just a fantastic mother? There was this huge yello and black sharp-looking sting stuck in his left foot, and he was screaming and sobbing his little lungs out.

We took him into the kitchen, and had absolutely no clue what to do. After much panicking, I decided to run the foot under the cold tap, which seemed to help. Hurriedly paged through the Baby Manual to see if there was anything about stings. There was. The Boyfriend phoned his mother in a panic. She told us what to do and then rushed over.

Where am I going with this? It's important to know how to deal with bee/wasp stings. I didn't think it would be a problem because I dont have flowers in my garden, but my son stepped on a bee that was (I think) resting on the grass. So, here's a how-to guide on dealing with stings.

BEE STINGS:

Bee stings are a little more troublesome as the bees leaves its stinger in the victim’s skin. If you try to pinch the sting out of the skin, you may actually pump more venom into the body. Do not use tweezers either. The best thing to do is to scrape horizontally across the skin in order to knock the sting out (try using a credit card). Apply an antihestimine lotion or use baking soda mixed with water (this should reduce irritation).

You could also use tea tree oil on the area - it is an excellent anti-bacterial. My baby book also instructed me to rub the affected area with freshly-cut onion, as this will help to draw the venom out.

WASP STINGS:

Wasp stings should be treated by rubbing vinegar onto the affected area of the skin. Alternatively, there are many lotions available that will treat wasp stings. Wasps dont leave a stinger behind, so the main concern is dealing with the pain shock of a sting.

If your child develops breathing difficulties, any swelling around eyes, lips, tongue or penis, any red blotching, light-headedness or fainting, then they must be seen by a doctor immediately.

At least we learnt one thing out of this minor ordeal. The Kid isn't allergic to bee-stings.

O bastos ba pakinggan kapag HUNG Over?.

For this cake, I made two nine-inch round cakes. After letting them cool completely, I cut them each in half to make four layers. The icing recipe makes a huge amount, so it was plenty to go between the layers, cover the cake entirely, with enough left to pipe on writing and decorations with an icing bag. I used three drops of red food coloring to get the baby-pink Restaurant Eve color. Having never made a layer cake before, I didn’t do a great job of getting the layers even, but it did taste good. Getting the sprinkles to stick to the sides is a challenge, too -- my kitchen was inundated with them when I finished.

I must say I am rather impressed with my sewing skills this week. After not touching the sewing mach

I must say I am rather impressed with my sewing skills this week. After not touching the sewing machine for eons, I opened it up the other day because my dance teacher wanted me to make some life sized Alvin and the Chipmunks heads. Apparently she has picked out a victim/volunteer to wear them at the end of year dance concert and I am the lucky person who gets to make them.

At the moment, the chipmunk looks more like a crazed kids pillow with some eyes and off centre ears. I am getting there, though! I'll post pics as soon as I can get my backside off this chair.

The two weeks of the school holidays are almost over (I can cry a weak "yay!" with the energy I have left). I was almost over it before it had begun. Military school is looking quite positive ;).

I have also been doing some work for a crazy arty farty friend of mine, Petrina Mc Donald. P has been a very busy girl and has designed some very cool little chippy pieces and asked me to have a play with them so that she could sell them through Stuff 2 Scrap.

Here's a look at the chippy pieces:

Aren't they great? I was so pleased to be able to design with something new and exciting. Here's a look at what I created using the pieces:

Check out Petrina's Blog with her new designs and product ideas HERE.

So, what else is new? I have been putting together some ideas for Tips, both for here on my Blog and on the Tips and Techniques site. I have also started putting together some of my ideas and designs for rub ons. I will be making A4 sheets of rub ons with my designs on them - ranging from about AUD$6 - $15. They will be coloured rub ons, quite large in size and designed for all sorts of pages and themes - but the one thing they will have in common will be an "arty farty" twist :)

The pic below shows you my Tip for this week - using your old Junkitz vellum letters as a lask on your cardstock base so that you can create your own title as a part of your background.

# mount -o loop MathWorks_R14_1.iso /media/cdrom

Una vez montado debemos iniciar la instalacion

# / media/cdrom/install

# umount /media/cdrom
# mount -o loop MathWorks_R14_2.iso /media/cdrom

# umount /media/cdrom
# mount -o loop MathWorks_R14_3.iso /media/cdrom

Si no tenemos ningun problema (no deberia haberlo) podemos desmontar

# umount /media/cdrom

Y ejecutar matlab

$ matlab

# rm /opt/matlab7/sys/os/glnx86/libgcc_s.so.1

here:

shabang shabang (샤방샤방) means like you know when hot, handsome, and pretty people smile, it seems like some kind of beam of light comes out from that people, u know? along with some flowers~ (if you see lots of manga, you'll know what i mean).. we often use shabang shabang in that situation... it just simply mean that they are hot ㅋㅋㅋ

and ㅋ means laugh-
like 크크크 or hahahahaha something like that;but people are too lazy to right the fool character, 크, down.. so instead we are using ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ as laughter. Just like in here we use 'lol'

America's Next Top Model has finally been spun off.

Reuters reports indicate that the new show, "Operation Fabulous," will feature some familiar faces from the ANTM judging cast.

The CW is spinning off its hit reality series "America's Next Top Model."

The network has ordered a pilot for "Operation Fabulous," starring "Top Model" regulars Jay Manuel and J. Alexander and executive produced by "Top Model" chiefs Tyra Banks and Ken Mok.

On "Fabulous," "Jay and J," as Manuel and Alexander are called on "Top Model," will travel the country giving women makeovers. In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them "Top Model"-style overhauls -- how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community.

The project seeks to capitalize on a fan-favorite "Model" segment, when contestants are given head-to-toe high-fashion makeovers supervised by Alexander.

Manuel and Alexander have been with "Model" since the series' debut on UPN in 2003. Manuel is the creative director of show's photo shoots; Alexander is a runway expert who has been a judge for the past few seasons.

"Model" airs twice a year on the CW. Although ratings have ebbed in recent years, the reality show remains the network's highest-rated series.

"Fabulous" would mark the third fashion-themed reality series on CW from Banks and Mok, who also executive produce the network's series "Stylista," slated to debut October 22, which features contestants vying for an editorial position at Elle magazine.

A backup camera can help you avoid hitting another vehicle, running over a pet, or running over a child while in reverse.

Installing the VR3 Wireless Backup Camera is very easy and can be installed on almost any vehicle. The camera does need to connect to the electrical harness for power, but the connection between camera and the monitor, which can sit on your dash, is wireless so you don't need to worry about running a cable to connect the two.

When shopping for natural personal care products, make sure to read the ingredients labels. By law,

When shopping for natural personal care products, make sure to read the ingredients labels. By law, the ingredients of a product must be listed "in order of predominance." By reading what is in a product, you will be able to see for yourself how much of it is natural and how much is synthetic.

(One word to the wise: not ALL ingredients have to be listed. Some are considered "exempt," and are indicated by the vague phrase "and other ingredients." Exempt ingredients include those chemicals that are key to a company's secret recipe. Also, some ingredients and additives may remain completely undisclosed. And of course, a product may always be adultered with substances that shouldn't even be there, such as by-products.)

When deciphering ingredients, I pretty much go by the rule of thumb, "If you can't pronounce it, it's not natural." Of course, this is just a shortcut and has its drawbacks. For instance, ingredients are customarily listed by their scientific names. Thus, you will see chemicals like "tocopherol" that sound like some sort of toxic compound, but are really the proper names of natural ingredients. Tocopherol is Vitamin E.

Oh, yeah. When I said that "ingredients must be listed in order of predominance," I meant that they must be listed in order of quantity. Thus, the first few ingredients listed on a label are some of the most important to note, as they are what make up the bulk of the product. Here are a few ingredients that I've noticed commonly pop up in the first line of ingredients labels: water, mineral oil, propylene glycol, and sodium laurel sulfate. Of course, keep an eye on those "little" ingredients, too -- the ones buried in the middle of the ingredients list or at the end. An otherwise completely natural product with one carcinogenic compound at the very end of its list is still undesirable. Size doesn't always matter. ;)

When you start reading labels, you might begin to recognize names as I have. Petrolatum, ammonium laureth sulfate, triclosan, aluminum compounds... These are common chemicals used in personal care products, and you might want to do some quick research on them if you are using them on your body frequently. That's the cool thing about the Internet -- it's easy to plug the chemical names into a search engine and learn more about them. But be careful -- you can run into a lot of misinformation, as anyone can write whatever they want on the 'Net. Generally, the best source for info is from organizations like the FDA and from scientific reports.

Of course, you might find that you have to compromise when shopping for your "natural" products. I like soaps without the detergent sodium lauryl sulfate, but my fluoride-free toothpaste has it. Likewise, my aluminum-free deodorant has propylene glycol. In these cases, I picked the lesser of the evils. I'm willing to put up with synthetic ingredients that -- as far as I know -- are nontoxic in order to avoid chemicals that I know are detrimental to health, like fluoride and aluminum.

You might be a bit nervous when you begin dating Russian women. You are probably unfamiliar with what they believe is good manners, or what kind of things they are looking for in a man. You might feel a bit intimidated dating someone who is not from a place that you are familiar with. Don't worry, I’ve got you covered! Below are seven tips to successfully date Russian women.
1. Be yourself. You should be totally honest with your Russian woman. You want her to like or fall in love with you for who you truly are, and not some made up altar ego. You would appreciate it if your Russian woman was completely honest with you, so do the same for her. Be honest about how much money you make, what kind of person you are, and what you like and dislike. This will ensure that the Russian women you meet will like you for who you truly are.
2. Dress neatly and be well groomed. Russian women usually dress very nicely all the time. This doesn't mean you have to run out and buy designer clothing, you should simply dress neatly. Wear nice fitting clothes that are neat and pressed. Make sure that your hair is cut well and your facial hair is groomed neatly. Russian women appreciate a man who knows how to look his best.
3. If you will be entertaining a Russian woman in your home, ensure that your house is nice and tidy. Along with personal tidiness, it will make a good impression if your home is clean and neat. Remember that your home is an extension of yourself. To make your home more welcoming, light a few candles and play some soft music.
4. Listen to what she is saying. Don’t just hear. As with any woman, Russian women like to know that you are interested in what they are saying. Lean in when she is speaking so she knows that you are intent on what she is communicating with you. Ask questions so she knows that you are interested in hearing more.
5. Understand your Russian woman. You should understand that Russian women are like any other woman and need attention, affection, and love. All women love to know that they are special and unique. Understanding what motivates her, or what angers or saddens her will help you immensely when it comes to dating her. She will appreciate not having to explain herself.
6. Make sure she knows that she is special. You don't have to publish that fact in a newspaper, but make sure she knows it. Purchase her a small gift, or give her something you know she will love. Even if it is a special dinner or something that means a lot to her. Listening to her speak should give you some clues on where to go with this one.
7. Learn about her culture and country. Do some research to learn a bit about her culture, society and country. Knowing where she comes from will help you to understand some of the reasons that she is the way she is. Your Russian woman will appreciate the fact that you're gone to some trouble to understand more about who she is and where she came from.
Any woman appreciates a man who tries hard to show her that she is special, worthy, and important. Use these tips and ideas to help you successfully date Russian women, and show that special one how great she really is.

I’m home for the weekend. I was going to stay at college this weekend but, ultimately, I

I'm home for the weekend. I was going to stay at college this weekend but, ultimately, I'm glad I took the trip home. Home = me time. And I miss that. Also, I needed to catch up on some school work.

While I'm home, I thought I'd take the time to search out some useful articles on something I've dealt with this week: stress due to poor time management.

On Monday, I went to a movie with friends. On Tuesday, I went to a bar with friends. On Wednesday, I did laundry, washed dishes, did homework, did an interview for school and wrote an article for myUsearch. On Thursday, I crashed. Seriously. I pretty much fell asleep on my face. I hadn't even meant to have a nap- I just laid on my bed for a couple minutes. When I woke up, my face hurt. It was not my finest hour, to say the least.

Here are a couple time management tips that I've learned on my own this week:

Do keep track of everything in a day planner. I would be lost without mine. This means homework assignments, school projects, due dates, chores (laundry, dishes, etc.), bands you'd like to see, movie dates with friends, parties, etc.

Don't plan an outing for every night of the week. (Unless you like falling asleep in class.)

Do make lists of the things you have to do. (Items on this list should not include "Party" or "Drink vodka.")

Don't ignore yourself. (Personally, I would crawl up in a ball and sob quietly if I didn't have my Me Time. I just need it.) If you have a hobby, make some time to pursue it.

Do prioritize. Make school work and projects a priority. You're here to learn... even if it's the last night that new Seth Rogen movie is playing at the theatre.

Don't nap too much. It'll either make you groggy or you won't be able to get to sleep later. (Click here to learn the benefits of power napping.)

Do get enough sleep. You'll be a mess otherwise. (Stressed? Read this article to learn how to get those valuable zzz's, even when you're stressed out.)

Here are some related articles that might help you manage your time and, therefore, de-stress your college life:

What NOT to do / learning to quash my anxiety

This blog is about journey. So here is a situation I was put into, and this is how I felt, and how hind-sight dictated I should handle it.

The one time a Canon Rebel was put in my hands and I was told to take a family shot, I did not know what to do.

I was waiting to be laughed at (but I should NEVER let my insecurities get the better of me).

What was the problem?

So what happened is they looked to me for direction, of which I had none obviously, so the owner of the camera made a suggestion, and then it was up to me to just take the picture.

No one made fun of me to my face, but that didn't change the fact that my face was had never turned more shades of red.

So what do I do about this?

I'll list off the reasons that really shouldn't make a difference, but really did.

This is my checklist of what really freaked me out:

High expectations!

Yes, great excuse, huh? In my example, it was the day after a wedding, and I had my fiance's family from out of state, including his grandmother whom I'd just met, were there. They were anxious for a nice family reunion picture. I didn't think I could deliver, and that was my first mistake: Not having faith in myself.

• I really need to be able to take charge, because I AM THE ARTIST, even if I'm not a professional photographer.

• I know what constitutes good composition, and I need to remind myself of that every time I am put in a similar situation.

An actual photographer is in the room... OMG!!

Ok, so maybe he's not a professional photographer, but considering he owns a $1000+ camera, either he has too much money to spend (which is unlikely, considering he has a wife and a couple of kids and this economy sucks) or he actually knows how to use this expensive piece of equipment. So where does that leave me?

• Refer to the above points on knowing I'm an artist.

• Ask questions beforehand and take a few minutes to really figure out this camera before being, literally thrown into an uncomfortable situation.

They're WAITING for YOU

I've always hated any time the attention was directed at me, unless I'm purposefully making a joke (which I repeat in my head once or twice to make sure it's funny before I actually say it). I'd much prefer to be an observer than to be the observed.

This holds especially true if I'm being the photographer, I feel as though my every move is being critiqued. I can certainly accept criticism, but on my terms, of course.

Up there, in front of an actual photographer (well, TECHNICALLY, there were two in the audience) I feel more vulnerable to attack. Words I need to repeat to myself:

• GET OVER IT. Do more public speaking, take the camera on outings, whatever it takes.

• Never be afraid to admit lack of knowledge, because that is the only way we learn.

• Ask for suggestions. Ask for a second eye, because sometimes certain shots won't come to you immediately, especially when they involve large crowds of people.

• Remember all those times YOU'VE been in the picture and had to wait an extra minute or two while the photographer adjusted. You survived. So will your subjects.

Conclusion:

I know I can be really flaky when it comes to being put in charge. If I ever want to be a photographer (in my top 10 list of jobs) then I need to get over myself.

It has to do with this self esteem issue that I've been working on for years, and it has actually gotten better.

I'm trying to conquer this last bit of it.

And one day, this WILL be mine:

Para ello, en la terminal:

cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info

OBS: Puede ser BAT0 ó BAT1.

gkdeb@darkstar:~$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present: yes
design capacity: 4000 mAh
last full capacity: 3864 mAh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 11100 mV
design capacity warning: 200 mAh
design capacity low: 120 mAh
capacity granularity 1: 264 mAh
capacity granularity 2: 3780 mAh
model number: Primary
serial number:
battery type: Lion
OEM info: ACER

Los datos a comparar son:

design capacity: 4000 mAh
last full capacity: 3864 mAh

For my second "How To", I was inspired by people I saw today out in public.
And thus, I came up with

How To Be Unimpressive

Firstly, decide on your wardrobe. Will you wear clashing colours or patterns? Perhaps something unclean is more your fancy? If you're a male, I find the dark blue thin singlet is exceptionally unimpressive.

Footwear? Crocs are a good start. No one looks good in them. NOBODY. If a supermodel was to wear them (come on, I know it's unbelievable, but play along. Perhaps she is blind?), she'd look awful. Ugg boots are another great choice. As lovely as they are around the house, there they should stay.

Now you must pick your method of communication. Starting with the very basic of all unimpressive efforts, there is the grunt. Use it as an answer to any question you're asked. Perhaps you want to actually use words, but still be unimpressive? Ah, you must now pick between the overly rural Australian accent (complete with 'mate', 'g'day', 'sheila' and 'fair dinkum') or the bogan drawl. The bogan drawl is particularly unimpressive, as it involves 'youse'. To anyone with an IQ over 100, youse is like nails on a blackboard. Thankfully, the sound of it makes our ears bleed so much that we do not hear the rest of what they say. Hallelujah!

Hop on a computer. Open up Word. Start typing. Do you see AlTeRnAtInG cApS? Iz tha spelchek thretnin too muv owt? Perhaps rlly bd chtspk? Any numbers where they shouldn't be (example: 2day)? DO YOU SEEM TO BE HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY CONSTANTLY? When you find something funny, do you LOL or LMAO or ROFL?
If so, congratulations. You're unimpressive.

Let's get down to personal habits. Check right now, are you in a public place? If so, cough up some phlegm onto the footpath. Quick, before anyone starts to think you're not manly enough. Mmk, that done? Grab a can of Lynx. Point at your clothes. Spray. Hold down for about a minute. If you're inside, make sure you get some around you too, so everyone else can appreciate it. Okay, good.

Can you think of any more?

I love it when I find good, useful and "homemade" information like this!

I love to make "my own."

I love to watch things "become."

I love vanilla!

Vanilla is wonderful. And if you're like me you use more than you can afford because vanilla extract is expensive. I've been blessed in the past by a friend who brings me large quantities of Vanilla Extract from mexico. But I always feel just a little guilty when they bring it because they always give it as a gift and refuse payment for the liquid bakers treasure.

So when I read this post by Elise I was just beside myself and ready to run down to the local brown bag and get me a 5th of vodka. Humm, I wonder if Rum would be a good choice for this recipe?????

Now, all you Good Christian cooks out there who didn't know you were using alcohol to bake your grandma's pound cake need to do some research and find out the facts. Then you just have to admit you love vanilla extract and get over your aversion for these spirits..... you just gotta go and see how to make our own vanilla extract.
