Heute schrieb SpOn über die neue Beta-Version des MS IE 8:

Internet Explorer 8: Browser mit Porno-Tarnkappe - Netzwelt - SPIEGEL ONLINE - Nachrichten.

Da stellt SpOn mal wieder seine Recherchekompetenz unter Beweis. Die angebliche Neuerung des "InPrivate-Browsing", die es sogar als gefeierte "Porno-Tarnkappe" in die Überschrift des Artikel geschafft hat, ist schon seit April 2005 Standard in Safari, dem Browser von Apple. Die Tatsache, das unter dem Artikel des Kürzel "pat" zu finden ist, macht die Sache umso amüsanter: Herr Patalong ist nämlich, wie Spiegel-Online meist auch, bereits seit langem für seine, nennen wir es Apple-kritische Art bekannt:

"Eigentlich freuen wir uns immer, wenn sich SpOn über Apple-Produkte äußert. Meist wird gebasht, auch wenn die Fakten nicht immer ganz korrekt sind. Aber das Herrn Patalong und Co. ja noch nie so richtig gestört. Haptsache, aus dem Apfel wird Mus.

However as a Mac and Safari user, I found it odd that Safari didn't have an option on Blizzard's Armory site.

So like any ranty geek that I am, I mucked about till I had one. Below you'll find instructions for getting the awesome auto-search mechanism in Safari.

Install steps for Safari

1) Grab the Inquisitor plug-in for safari. You will love me forever (yes you will) if you are a Safari user who is not also using this cool search plug-in. The v3.2 is worth updating to if you're using an older version, and you'll need it to do the rest of the steps.

2) In the Safari Prefs, click Search.

3) Check the "Display links to additional search engines" check-box.

4) Click the "Edit Sites" button.

5) Enter an obvious name like "WoW-Armory" in site name.

6) Enter "http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?searchQuery=%@&searchType=all" in the URL.

7) hit "Done", and close the Prefs screen.

What I love is that this works for tons of other search tools too. The magic is that any website you want to create one of these just grab the search URL of the result, take out the term used in your search, and add in "%@".

Some other examples are:
4 Hour Search = "http://www.4hoursearch.com/search?q=%@"
Armory Lite = "http://armorylite.com/search/all/%@"

The only limitation of this I have found is it needs to be a single word phrase to do this simplistic substitution. I suppose you could alter the rest of the search string for the Armory example to limit to  Guilds, or Toons, etc, but then you'd need to create a separate custom search for each type of search you'd like to do.

Um item interessante a se observar, é que nesta última pesquisa o engine search da AOL acabou superando o Live Search, da Microsoft e assumindo a quarta posição no ranking mundial. Pois é Microsoft, nem pagando (saiba o porquê aqui, quando a Microsoft conseguir voltar o site ao ar ;)

El pasado 17 de junio, Mozilla lanzó la versión definitiva de Firefox 3. Una nueva y mejora versión del navegador de código libre que nace gracias al trabajo de miles de colaboradores y con la intención de hacer más rica, productiva y personalizable la experiencia de los usuarios en Internet.

The iphone was yesterday slapped on the wrist for a number of complaints toward the product for false advertising. The advert claimed that the iphone could browse all parts of the internet seemlessly. The only thing they didnt mention is that the iphone is compatible with flash or javascript! So that basically rules out alot of websites from being seen on your iphone.! TV marketing and an online marketing campaign were launched only earlier this year claiming that the new generation mac phone can access all parts of the net.

The advert has been banned all together in UK as mac uk have recieved so many complaints. Apple were quoted as saying, "the aim of the ad was to highlight that the iphone can access all websites better than a WAP browser can".

Bit naughty if you ask me! The advert itself is crystal clear. I tried a website I know to have flash the other day and it wouldnt load....mmmm bit annoying really!

Para mubaligh ini adalah tenaga penceramah yang akan melakukan sosialisasi perdamaian lewat kegiatan Safari Ramadhan 1429 H yang mulai berlangsung 1 September nanti.

Pertemuan para mubaligh itu digagas oleh Badan Reintegrasi-Damai Aceh (BRA) bekerjasama dengan organisasi ulama di Aceh. Hadir dalam pertemuan itu, antara lain Ketua Harian BRA M Nur Djuli, Drs Fauzi Zainal Abidin dari Universitas Syah Kuala (Unsyiah), serta Faurizal Muchtar dari Tim Ekonomi BRA.

Dalam pertemuan itu, narasumber dan mubaligh banyak membahas masalah perdamaian dan berbagai hal yang berpeluang mengganggu perdamaian Aceh, serta kaitannya dengan program reintegrasi.

BRA menganggap peran mubaligh ini menjadi sangat penting pada saat Ramadhan nanti karena mereka juru dakwah yang akan bertemu langsung dengan masyarakat di pedesaan.

“Kita berharap dengan adanya materi ceramah dari kalangan mubaligh, proses perdamaian Aceh akan berjalan semakin lancar,” kata Nur Djuli.

Dalam diskusi tersebut terlihat sekali bahwa para mubaligh di Aceh pun ternyata ada juga yang kurang begitu paham dengan wewenang dan tanggung jawab BRA.

Sama seperti halnya masyarakat biasa, para mubaligh itu ada yang sempat berpikir bahwa BRA adalah lembaga pengelola dana untuk reintegrasi.

“Kami berpikir tadinya BRA ini gudang uang yang harus dibagi-bagikan kepada masyarakat,” kata salah sorang peserta.

Setelah ada penjelasan dari pihak BRA, akhirnya mereka paham, ternyata BRA adalah lembaga yang hanya bertugas mendata dan menyalurkan dana bantuan untuk korban konflik. Sedangkan uang ada di Dinas Sosial.

Beberapa narasumber dari BRA juga menjelaskan tentang proses penyaluran dana dan kriteria penerima bantuan. Nur Djuli mengungkapkan tentang banyak data yang tidak benar, dan BRA kemudian mencoret data itu.

“Ternyata di lapangan, ada orang yang mencoba memanipulasi data sehingga ada beberapa data tidak benar yang masuk ke BRA,” kata Nur Djuli seraya menambahkan setelah dicek lapangan akhirnya ketidakbenaran itu terungkap juga.

Terkait dengan kondisi itu, BRA meminta agar para mubaligh terus mengkampanyekan tentang ajaran-ajaran agama kepada masyarakat Aceh. Seharusnya warga tidak melakukan pembohongan data, sehingga bantuan yang akan disampaikan ke korban konflik sampai ke tangan orang yang berhak.

Ketua Panitia Sosialisasi Damai Safari Ramadhan, Muhammad Thahir Hasan menyebutkan dengan keterlibatan para mubaligh dalam program ini, diharapkan isu-isu miring tentang perdamaian Aceh serta masalah penyaluran bantuan untuk korban konflik bisa diluruskan.[analisa]

I just came across a great plugin for most internet browsers called Cooliris (formerly known as piclens) basically it gives you websites images and videos in an 3D interactive full-screen slideshow. I especially like this plugin as I can view my flickr photos and other peoples very easily and quickly in a smart fashion, youtube videos also work great on it to. Un paseo en lancha por las riveras del río Chobe ofrece posibilidades de ver una gran cantidad y riqueza en cuanto a fauna. La experiencia de ir en lancha es buenísima, pues te ahorras los baches y los botes que vas dando con un 4x4, la polvareda y la sensación de navegar por esas aguas es muy cómoda y estimulante. Además me quedé sorprendido de (probablemente por hacer menos ruido), la distancia a la que se dejaban acercar los animales. Nunca me habían aguantado tanto los cocodrilos o los hipopótamos, por poner un ejemplo... Podéis comprobarlo en las siguientes fotos.

It's been a while since Microsoft came up with Internet Explorer 7. In the meantime, Apple Safari, Opera and Mozilla Firefox have added a few goodies to their own Web browser. "Enough is enough," said Steve Ballmer, and instructed its Redmond's elves to start working on a newer web browser---Internet Explorer 8.

Internet experts are saying that IE8 will probably hit the streets sometime in November, just in time before Santa Claus comes to town. Most of the features you'll find in this latest release are features you already get with competitive browsers---with a few exceptions.

in it's defense apple claimed that...

proprietary languages or technologies, such as Flash or Java, were not open source and required a plug-in or individual download in order for content to appear within the specific browser, regardless of whether the access to a site was made from an iPhone or home computer

you could almost fall for this if it wasn't for their further claim that apple had done this to ensure the best experience for their users:

[apple] could not ensure compatibility with every third party technology in the marketplace and, in order to create the best customer experience, had created their platform on open standards

claiming that lack of java and flash support somehow benefits iphone users is pathetic. at best it's a poor excuse for their failure to deliver improvements the iphone's weak safari browser. having java and flash disabled makes browsing worse, not better. i suspect that the real reason is that they either cannot implement the technologies without fear of opening their platform to potential security weaknesses, or that they can't get it running without error on the iphone's operating system. whatever the reason, the iphone's safari browser is cripple without java and flash support

The Private Browsing mode when enabled, IE8 will not save browsing and searching history, cookies, form data and passwords; it also will automatically clear the browser cache at the end of the session.

Other new tools will include "InPrivate Blocking" and "InPrivate Subscription," which notifies users of third-party content that can track browsing history and subscribe to lists of sites to block, respectively. Microsoft will also tweak its existing "Delete Browsing History" by adding an option to preserve bookmarked sites' cookies even when all others are erased.

Apple's browser Safari already has this feature but is limited to not save browsing and searching history, cookies, form data and passwords and clearing the browser cache at the end of the session. (NO "InPrivate Blocking" and "InPrivate Subscription")

Mozilla were going put this feature in their browser Firefox 3.0 which went final in mid-June, but the feature was pulled as the browser made its run toward completion. Firefox 3.1 most probably will have the "private browsing" which is how they are describing the privacy  tools they are planning on adding to Firefox.

It's been a couple of months now and I really enjoyed the ability to read Chinese characters on this device. As to writing, I have only been mostly writing random characters for "showing off" purposes, nothing real world. Until yesterday, I was listening to a Chinese song, and I really liked to know the lyrics.

So, I fired up Google in Safari, and started to enter the song title (4 characters long) in Simplified Chinese by using the handwriting input method. Everything worked great as far as the handwriting recognition goes. So, I pressed enter to begin search. Less than a few seconds, the screen went dark, Safari crashed!

No problem! I will try again, as I do for all other application crashes. I'm pretty "numbed up" by all kinds of crashes on iPhone that this really didn't bother me. Until these steps turned into an "infinite loop" of "Writing Text -> Press Enter -> Safari Crashes -> Restart Safari".

The song had been playing in the background over and over again (probably no less than 10 times) while I continued to struggle to find the lyrics, until I was shocked to realize that I was already singing along with the song! That right! I already pretty much memorized the lyrics by listening to it that many times while executing that infinite loop.

Speaking of irony. Apple is known for User Experience, but what's the "experience" if the feature doesn't even work for the user? This scenario I ran into is nothing out of ordinary. Since I work in the field of software QA (Quality Assurance), I know for fact that a scenario as this would be classified as P0 (Priority 0, as to most important), and no build should have been released if any P0 scenario had failed. So, with that, I wonder, does Apple even have a QA team or process to verify all the features they designed/built that actually met specification? Or were they so rushed into shipping this on time that they completely ignored the quality? Just like the MobileME craziness.

Another "glitch" I read in the news today about Bypassing iPhone Security PassCode. Pretty scary stuff!
