The NY Times has a pretty detailed account of Elton Brand’s exodus from Los Angeles for a few

The NY Times has a pretty detailed account of Elton Brand's exodus from Los Angeles for a few extra million in the East. At the end, I'm still unclear on my three main points of interest: How did things sour with the Clips so quickly? What was David Falk's role in this (would he really want that much bad publicity just for a percentage of a few extra million? this isn't the kind of money that Boras was going to get out of the Manny deal.) What did this have to do with Elgin Baylor getting axed? If anything, the article makes it seem like Dunleavy's failure to get things done.

The Philly roster:
42 Elton Brand F 6-9 254 03/11/1979 Duke 9
1 Samuel Dalembert C 6-11 250 05/10/1981 Seton Hall 6
30 Reggie Evans F 6-8 245 05/18/1980 Iowa 6
33 Willie Green G 6-3 201 07/28/1981 Detroit Mercy 5
9 Andre Iguodala F-G 6-6 207 01/28/1984 Arizona 4
12 Royal Ivey G 6-4 215 12/20/1981 Texas 4
8 Donyell Marshall F 6-9 245 05/18/1973 Connecticut 14
7 Andre Miller G 6-2 200 03/19/1976 Utah 9
50 Theo Ratliff C 6-10 235 04/17/1973 Wyoming 13
40 Jared Reiner C 6-11 255 04/08/1982 Iowa 2
11 Antywane Robinson F 6-8 220 07/12/1984 Temple R
4 Kareem Rush G 6-6 215 10/30/1980 Missouri 5
14 Jason Smith F 7-0 240 03/02/1986 Colorado State 1
16 Marreese Speights F-C 6-10 245 08/04/1987 Florida R
23 Louis Williams G 6-2 175 10/27/1986 South Gwinnett HS (Snellville, GA) 3
21 Thaddeus Young F 6-8 220 06/21/1988 Georgia Tech 1

If Brand stays healthy and if his addition doesn't limit the young run and gun style that made that squad dangerous last year, that team looks really interesting. I always think of Dalembert as having entered the league in about 1984, but he's got a lot of life left himself. They have an overall good mix of veterans and upside. So whatever the rationale, I wish Brand would have stayed out west to fight for the ninth playoff spot and not tampered with our beloved little brother conference.

There are a lot of people that like sport either to do it themselves or watch it on TV. But why no go to a game and watch the live action. Here is a guide of a few upcoming sporting events in London:

26th October: NFL, New Orleans Saints v San Diego Chargers - The NFL returns back to London with again a beneficiary game, this time between the Saints and the powerful Chargers.

Cycling in London - One of the best ways to see all the sights of London is to take a bike. You can rent a bike and a map or you can join a group with a guide. For more info:http://www.thefns.com/

Friday Night Skating - Every Friday night (when the weather is alright) you can join a group that goes through London on skates. Every week there is a different route of about 20 kilometers. It is free and skates/protection can be rented.

We say we revere thrift, yet spend money we don't have and get in credit trouble up to our necks. We say we're a Christian nation, yet tolerate and even celebrate a pagan culture.

And we embrace the concept of "student-athlete" even though it is a joke. Today's college football players are in every way professional athletes. They are paid to attend school; we don't call it a job, we put some respectability on it by calling it a scholarship. That payment, uh, scholarship, can be worth a hundred grand or more depending upon the school. A professional is someone who gets paid to do a job, and football players are employees in every way. It is deception to think otherwise.

Lou Holtz was the best at deception. During his years at Carolina, he had more than one thug to cause problems, and he went to outlandish lengths to give them fifth and sixth chances. But instead of admitting the team needed them to win, he'd become the great humanitarian. More than once, he'd almost cry in explaining why that poor kid needed "one more chance." It had nothing to do with football, you see, he was just trying to help a poor kid succeed. Bull.

Now Tommy Bowden is gone. The State newspaper's Ron Morris did a brilliant job in putting the episode in perspective.

Let's start with Montreal. They pack a wallop, rolling out their slippery forwards, big bruising defense, and hulking specimen of a goaltender. On top of that, they provided a solid defense and were patient enough to wait for scoring opportunities and pounce. Their forecheck is phenomenal. Canadiens fans, you have a team worthy of being the 100th anniversary squad.

And if you'd like to send Mike Komasarek to Philadelphia, I am willing and ready to take him. He's gritty, positionally sound, and involved in every scrum. He is truly my dream defenseman.

Back to Philadelphia. The Flyers fought hard the entire night, and I don't mean fisticuffs. They struggled against the puck throughout the evening. I don't know whether the ice was bad - several of the good skaters like Braydon Coburn and Simon Gagne were catching edges and looked slower than usual. However, the Canadiens managed to deal with it, which suggests to me that the Flyers need to stop gripping the sticks too tightly and work on their chemistry.

On top of the wildly bouncing puck, the Flyers tried far too many fancy plays. If the puck won't settle down, you can't be constantly trying to create the most awesome give-and-go ever. Mike Richards attempted a dipsy-doodle around one of the large Canadiens that failed, and he ended up on his butt watching the first goal of the game go into the net. Pretty plays only matter if they result in goals.

And then we arrive at Martin Biron. It's quite easy to tell when Biron is playing well - and I'm not referring to score sheets. The stellar Biron, who showed up in the playoffs, squares his shoulders to the shooter, is confident in his crease, and sucks up the rebounds. I once heard Marty himself compare the feeling of playing like that to having a vacuum in the crest of his jersey.

When he's not playing good hockey, well, you get last night. Rebounds careened off Biron like pinballs at the arcade. That's extremely difficult to defend against, and it proved the difference-maker in that game. At the opposite end of the ice, Carey Price stifled the Flyers' forwards by controlling the puck, never giving rebounds as the Orange and Black came crashing towards him.

The Flyers' first road trip of the season begins tonight in Pittsburgh. It's a chance to start anew.

Sports Anchor Rafer Weigel

It’s been a while since I actually paid to go to a football game. That is one of the perks of this job.

But when my team, the Chicago Bears, traveled to Atlanta this weekend I thought it might be time to do it the old fashioned way, because, here’s the thing, you can’t cheer in the press box. You can’t drink beer. It probably wouldn’t have gone over too well me standing in the press box, wearing my Bears’ Jersey, beer in one hand and fist pumping with the other.

Given that’s the only way I was taught to watch a Bears game, I figured it would be best to avoid that scenario and just buy a ticket like the regular 'Joe six-pack' … since I wanted a six pack.

And then I saw how much the ticket was.

The only ones I could find on the lower level were endzone seats for $85 each. An endzone seat! If you’ve ever sat in the endzone, you don’t actually see half the game. I wasn’t going to sit in an upper level because I’m old and don’t see too well and don’t enjoy watching a game through binoculars.

After the tickets, parking, and concessions, I was looking at over $200 for my wife and me to go (and she hates football).

Suddenly my couch and TV seemed much more attractive, considering I would be able to see ALL of the game from my TV.

Needless to say we stayed home.

And that got us thinking. If I’m not paying to go to games—and I’m a sports anchor—what kind of cutbacks are people making? Did you cancel that DirecTV sports package this year? What about season tickets? Did you cancel those?

Please share your stories and we’ll try to read them on the air.

It wasn't a good week for my teams.

The Carolina Panthers absolutely stunk. It's their worst game this year. DelHomme threw a couple of interceptions, but otherwise had a good game. They lost to Tampa Bay 27-3 and it wasn't that close. Mustn't take anything from the Bucs, though, as they took advantage of every turnover, as any good team should, they came their way. The Falcons beat the Bears by moving down field and scoring a field goal in eleven seconds.

That leaves these three tied for first at 4-2 and, combined with the Saints' 34-3 pasting of the Raiders, bunches all four teams bunched up pretty close.

The Redskins stumbled badly, falling to the hapless Rams 19-17. The Cowboys lost in more ways than one. In overtime, they lost on a blocked punt to the Arizona Cardinals. The very big one, though, is Tony Romo, out for four weeks with a broken finger. The Giants hardly looked like an undefeated team in getting slaughtered 35-14 to the Browns. The Eagles were the only NFC East team that looked good in beating the 49ers 40-26.

My Jets won, defeating the Bengals 26-14. New England and Miami both lost, with Buffalo on a bye week.

The Titans with a bye are the only team left without a loss and the winless teams have been reduced to the Lions and the Bengals.

Vasily Alexeev is quite possibly one of the most famous Olympic Weightlifter of all-time. He made his mark in 1972 and is now an easily recognized and iconic sports personality. Researching more about the history of weightlifting, I have pleasantly learned about a handsome bear of a man who also happened to be the previous Olympic Weightlifting gold medalist: another fellow Russian by the name of Leonid Zhabotinsky.

Leonid Zhabotinsky (also endearingly referred to as "Big Zhabo") possessed that cherubic looks that he seemed more huggable than intimidating. A true teddy bear, if one was to make an apt analogy. At 6'5" and 350 pounds, he was considered a towering, muscular giant in the world of Super Heavyweight Olympic Weightlifting. And even in his later years, he maintained his youthful appearance.

As soon as the on-field battle ended in a draw, the war of words kicked off. While collecting his Man of the Match award, Indian pacer Zaheer Khan said that the Aussies hadn’t been aggressive enough. And that triggered an exchange of words between the two camps.

Since there have been quite a few on-field scraps between the rival players during this hotly-contested Test, and in most contests between these countries in the recent past, should mean an entertaining few days between Tests.

Zaheer’s comments were in context of Australia’s run rate — which stayed under three — in both the innings, as well as the defensive fields set by Ricky Ponting, who employed a sweeper on both sides of the wicket for most parts.

But Ponting, who addressed the media after the match, said that the Indian pacer didn’t know what he was talking about. “We were the only ones here trying to take the game forward. We played aggressive cricket. I’m not sure what he means by that (statement). He can have a little bit of a chuckle to himself on the inside, that’s what I have to say to him. I don’t think it means too much to us,” he said. Later he added that it was the Indian team that was known to play for draws.

And once Ponting was done, Zaheer walked in from the Indian camp, ensuring that the issue simmered. “They generally play at four runs an over, but that was not the case here,” he said. After that he went on to comment about the Australian bowling attack. “Look, they (Aussies) couldn’t get us out twice, they couldn’t pick up 20 wickets... they couldn’t even get me and Bhajji out so what are they talking about?” he said. The Indian pacer also commented on the Australian spin-department. “On this fifth day pitch the spinners looked a long way from getting a wicket. Not just that even their seamers didn’t get many,” said Zaheer.

Ponting did admit though that his side missed a quality spinner. “A quality spinner might have made things a little different today. We’ve got a couple of days to recover from this game now and we hope to play hard Cricket in Mohali as well,” he said.

Of Late, India-Australia Cricket has become a huge affair. No stone remains unturned towards a memorable and saleable experience. Same goes for the current Test series. While Players are busy churning out high quality of cricket, Media is busy churning out equally sensational stuff. Let me put down a few from both print and visual media.

Why did Ganguly announce sudden retirement?
The Holy Grail! The news channel famous for its sting ops claimed to have laid its hands on the "real" truth. Whole affair was portrayed as some Watergate scandal waiting to be unearthed. The news went, "Ganguly ki beizzati ki thi tyaari. Dada ko nahin chahiye thi yeh beizzati. Dada ne kiya kinare hone ka faisla". According to the channel, Kumble had plans to leave out Ganguly from the first test match squad. He wanted to avenge the insult that Ganguly laid on him by not playing him during the 2003 World Cup despite his constant pleads. According to the "well placed" sources it would not be possible for Kumble to keep Ganguly out now.

Kumble and the 2 CD’s
The same channel claimed that Kumble-the captain have played 2 VCD’s to the team. First one contained clippings from the farcical Sydney test, Australia claiming dropped catches and the Monkeygate scandal. The second one relived Kolkata 2001. It got players pumped up. CD may or may not have pumped up the players but this news would for sure have left viewers boiling and hungry for revenge against the Australians.

Oz media slam Ganguly for delaying tactics in 'farcical draw'
This was a heading from the PTI. I searched online for related articles by the Australian media. I checked Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and others but couldn’t find any such report. What I found was a single article titled "Farcical draw like kissing mother-in-law" by some Andrew McKinlay. PTI claimed as if the entire Oz media was after Ganguly.

Recently, according to a report BCCI advised a sports channel not to advertise this as revenge and hatred filled series. Whatever be the case, sometimes such reporting do help in keeping up the popularity of the sport. I for one enjoyed run-in’s between Zaheer and Haddin, Shane Watson’s antics and Brett Lee’s glare a lot among other things. In fact I might not have enjoyed the match so much but for the media backed controversies.

How Fast Does Your Car Go?

Given money to spend and a world of options when selecting a car, every car enthusiast goes for one option—getting a sports car. In the world of sports cars, however, there stands the basic criteria of speed, speed, speed, and, well, speed.

The fastest sports car according to various critics is the 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans, with acceleration speed of 2.6 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. The fastest Ferrari car is the 2002 Ferrari ENZO, and this one can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph at breakneck speed of 3.5 seconds. Other fast cars include a Chevrolet, a Dodge, a LeBlanc, a Renault, an Audi, and a Corvette, all of which have acceleration speeds of not more than 2.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph.

Now, the question that begs answering is: what makes a fast sports car?

While stylistics make for a very good standard when getting a sports car, there’s more to the sleekness than just style. The very sleek and streamlined designs of these fast sports cars actually contribute to fantastic aerodynamics—making it much easier to drive the car fast without worrying about air resistance, air pressure, etc. In effect, the hot and sexy car design actually makes for more than aesthetics, but gives a boost to the speed and performance of the car.

Another feature that contributes to the speed of the car is its reduced weight. It’s evident in the reduced cargo capacity of a sports car. Luckily, this isn’t much of an issue with sports car enthusiasts. Related to cargo capacity and reduced weight is the fact that some sports cars may have smaller seating capacities, and usually are characterized by firmer, tighter rides, compared to the more spacious and comfortable rides offered by sports utility vehicles or sedans.

A last consideration in speed, however, is its general dynamics which include handling and drag when driving. A sports car has very little value if it cannot sustain its straight-line speeds when driving in tight curbs and ends up crushed after it hit a dead end. It is for this precise reason that even the fastest sports cars are usually rear-wheel driven rather than front-wheel driven, because of the fact that the rear-wheel drive provides greater traction and allows for the weight to be distributed evenly as the car makes a turn.

While there’s more to a sports car than just speed, it also doesn’t hurt that your sports car is fast. After all, the 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans is prized precisely because it rises above the speeds of every other fast sports car.

When Style Meets Performance: Exotic Cars 101

When Style Meets Performance: Exotic Cars 101

Searching for a quality luxury car will inevitably bring anyone to the rather apt adjective, “exotic”. Exotic food or exotic beauty may be more clearly defined, but what really makes for an exotic sports car?

Sleek and Elegant Design

Part of what makes an exotic sports car is the vehicles’ streamlined, sleek, and smooth designs, all of which serve functional purposes to the overall performance of the car albeit being so highly aesthetically pleasing.

Indeed, even exotic sports car makers know emphasis that car enthusiasts and racers put on design per se. After all, owning an exotic sports car in contrast to owning a car is, in itself, a status symbol. This status is endowed not only by the make of the car but also the style and visual appeal.

In fact, companies like Ferrari even employ design houses to come up with their car designs. Design powerhouse Pininfarina, for example, designed the 2002 Ferrari ENZO.

Breakneck Speeds

While design is one of the considerations of many car enthusiasts, the primary characteristic that by-far differentiates a sports car from the rest is its acceleration and maintainable road speed. When it comes to sports cars, it’s all a matter of speed, speed, and more speed. A pretty car won’t cut it if it cannot deliver the exhilarating ride that is expected of every sports car.

Exotic cars are continually challenging the rate at which a car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. Designs are beginning to be shaped from the engineering needs of the car, in order to suitably deliver a new record speed. As of the moment, the 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans continues to reign with 2.6 seconds. However, with the likes of the 2002 Ferrari ENZO being designed based on the specifications of making a fast car, expect faster sports cars in the near future.

One-in-a-Million

Indeed, exotic sports cars aren’t the type that mass produced and you can’t but then “off-the-lot”. Part of its exotic appeal is the fact that you can only have a certain number of models made available for sale. The rarer and more difficult to acquire, the greater a car’s exotic value.

It’s in the Name

Most cars don’t need visualization to be called exotic, they just are. These would include your cult sports car classics—your Porsche, your Ferrari, your Lamborghini.

While an ‘exotic sports car’ may be subjectively defined over a huge stratum, it’s safe to believe that these qualities are more or less held in commonality by any definition. At any rate, one look at a car may be enough to give you a clue.

Hi everyone! Its been a long, long time since I posted here. Maybe about 6 months ago. The reason was I had to use a different blog site because I was not really satisfied with the features here before. I was a begginer then so its possible that I dont know how to use those widgets hehe! But its a different story now, I just want everyhting to be simple and yet appealing to the eyes of my visitors. In accordance to this, I also updated the environment in this blog site unlike before it was kinda dark and it seems like a strange one. I somehow adapt the design relevant to the most awaited christmas season. I guess...

Its a good thing that I did'nt deleted this site.. Actually I almost in some instances. I also forgot my login access here so I had to guess which email address that I used here and you know what, it took me almost an hour to redeem my username and password. Well, nothing's so interesting here, I just want to welcome everyone and also myself here. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
